John Potter Obituary
Tybee Island, GA
John Joseph Potter, age 56, died May 2, 2021 in Vernon, Utah. He was born in Savannah, Georgia, but spent most of his life on Tybee Island. Mr. Potter's first job was Cameraman for WJCL-TV while he was still in high school. He then went to work for Universal Studios in Hollywood, California. Mr. Potter opened three businesses befor retiring to the mountains of North Carolina. John enjoyed scuba diving, fossil hunting, restoring old Volkswagens, and trying to make his Pug Dogs act normal. Unfortunately, he will be best remembered as the punk who faked the C.S.S. GEORGIA Ironclad photograph.

John asks that his friends on Tybee share in a Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer toast.
This, along with an informal memorial service, will be held at Huc-a-poo's on Wednesday July 21 at 10 am.

Oh my goodness I'm so sad I think about him often he was a sweet and entertaining person, he was like the real life version of the most interesting man in the world and yet I never knew when to take him seriously. God's speed John I hope you found your way home

He was a fascinating man. His wit was spontaneous and right on time with context the mark of a great mind. We have lost a wonderful person with a treasure trove of history, humor and civic pride too soon. John will be missed.

John was one of my favorite people...his warm and sometimes mischievous smile, sense of humor, passion for history and truth and his loyalty, devotion and compassion for his friends, family and animals i will remember most. He loved Tybee and his spirit will always be among those of us who knew and loved him. RIP my friend.
