John Singleton Jr. -Savannah- John Singleton Jr. was the youngest of seven children born July 29, 1945 to Rebecca and John Duncan Singleton in Savannah, Georgia. Both parents and three siblings preceded him in death. John, affectionately known as Bubber, attended elementary and middle school in Estill, South Carolina. In the early 1960's he attended Western High School in Detroit, Michigan and graduated with honors. He moved to New York and later received an Associates of Arts degree from Meger Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. In 1965 Bubber enlisted in the US Marine Corp. There he earned the rank of Lance Corporal. He received the National Defense Service Award, Viet Nam Service Medal, Outstanding Sharp-Shooter Award, and ultimately the Good Conduct Award. He was honorably discharged in February 1967. Bubber diligently served his country with great pride and dignity for an excess of six years. He was employed at the US Post Office until his retirement. He later worked for the New York City Housing Authority and the New York Transit Authority until his health failed him. Bubber was exceptionally gifted and talented. He excelled in both academics and sports. "To know him was to love him" He departed this life August 20, 2006 in Jamaica, New York. He leaves to mourn and cherish his memory two aunts: Essie Mikell of NY City and Florida M. Roper (Jeffery) of Savannah, GA; Three sisters: Albertha (Cleveland) Loadholt, Louise (Louis) Campbell and Florence (Louis) Jenkins, all of Savannah, GA; One nephew: Cleven (Venus) Loadholt of Brooklyn, NY; four nieces: Lolita Le'Noir of Farmington Hills, MI, Colette Williams of Southfield, MI, Dr. Terri Lynn Jenkins of Englewood, NJ and Audrey Y. Jenkins of Brooklyn, NY; Two grand nephews and one grand niece; A very special friend: Teresa Johnson of Jamaica, NY and a host of relatives and friends. Visitation: 1-2 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006. Funeral: 2 p.m. Saturday, August 26, 2006 in the Chapel of Williams and Williams Funeral Home.
