This poem was found in my mom's secretary after she passed. I am sure she thought of her mom when she read this.....but it makes me think of her.
I am absolutely certain that Mama would not want to be thought of as "gone"...
She would not want that...
She would not want anyone to be afraid that they will never get to see her again, or hear from her again, or hold her or talk with her again...
For if you need to see Mama, then look into the eyes of your children and your loved ones with love and compassion...
And if you need to hold Mama, then always take the time to listen when a lonely soul desperately needs someone to talk to...
And if you need to speak with Mama, then always be first with the words "I'm sorry," "I understand," "I love you," "I forgive you," "I respect you..."
And when you do these things, you will be with Mama; and she will be with you,

I was one of Miss Joyce's Tiponi kids. As a last born child, I was not at all sure that I wanted to get up and get to school by 9:00 at the tender age of three. Once I got inside the door, Miss Joyce had art and science projects set up. The room was always warm and inviting . I remember sitting on the little log for circle time and making Indian costumes from M & M grocery bags.
Now I am grown and have a three-year-old daughter. I would love to have a teacher like Miss Joyce for her, but I believe that mold has been broken.

Christy, Barbara, and Debra, and the whole Brannen clan,
Joyce was certainly a blessing to us all and she will be deeply missed. She was always so funny and kind whenever our family would visit her out on Coffee Bluff. One thing that will always stay fresh on my mind and many others is how passionate and thoughtful she always was towards anyone she encountered.
When our family lost our dear David, she was one of the first cousins to come to our aid and gave tremendous support. Her carefree attitude and winning smile surely helped in many ways.
Words sometimes aren't enough during times like this, but I'm hoping that somehow they will be for you.

I have been working with Joyce for the past 13 yrs. We laughed & joked with each other at least weekly. She was such fun & a true pleasure to work with. She has sent us many patients over the yrs. & all of them have raved about what a wonderful person Joyce has always been to everyone. I have never been so shocked as I was hearing this terrible news. I'm sure that Joyce will truly be missed by all of us in the Health Care Industry.

Only a few weeks ago Joyce was with us in the hospital as she made arrangements for a family member to enter a nursing home. As soon as we introduced ourselves, she said she was a Brannen too. She shared photos of her beloved daughters. Joyce was a most kind and caring person. I wish I had known her better.

Words are insufficient to describe how shocked we were to find out about Joyce's sudden death. Please accept our deepest sympathy in your great loss. Your mother and I were great friends. Our hearts go out to all of you at this time. It was such a shock to us to learn of your loss. Someone in our family has lived next door to Joyce, Cliff and the girls for about 30 years, until 2003. Our children grew up together. We shared many good and not so good times in the neighborhood. We are very saddened by the loss of a wonderful human being. Joyce was always kind, caring, and a problem solver. She touched many lives with her bright smile and gracious spirit. We are all the better for it. May God be with you in this time of great sorrow. I know she would tell us not to grieve too much and to remember the good times.I remember how excited she was when she found out she would be a grandmother for the first time. With deep sorrow and love for Joyce and her family. Joyce represented the best of Candler through her dedication and detailed attention for so many people down through the years. She gave of herself with love, kindness and humor. When human problems piled high over nursing home placement, difficulty paying bills, utilities about to be turned off, all I could think of was, "Let's see what Joyce Nettles at Candler can suggest."
She was a dear, dear friend to us all and will never, ever be replaced.

All of you are in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. I last saw Joyce at the mall as she was talking about how she and Diane were 60 for that week! As always she had that wonderful smile on her face. Over the past few years I had seen her many times at the hospital when mama and daddy were there, even when they were not on her floor, she would drop in to check on them. She always had encouraging words for all! That smile of hers was indeed a gift she had...a genuine smile.I know that she will be greatly missed not only by her family, but also her friends and co-workers. I will miss her as she was one of those people in my life that I can say, you know I have always known her...we grew up together.
We will all be glad to say that we knew Joyce Nettles and are so glad that she passed our way.We are better for having her a part of our lives!
