Leona Clement

Leona Clanton Clement - SAVANNAH - Leona Clanton Clement, age 91, died September 15 in Athens. She was a native of Bryan County, born on Christmas Day in 1921, moved to Savannah in 1922 and lived there until 1983. She married Staff Sgt James Clement, Jr on July 8, 1945. When he died in 1982, she moved to Lake George in Midway, GA and resided there until 2006 when she moved to Colbert, near Athens. She was a member of Morningside Baptist Church in Savannah, Fleming Baptist Church in Midway and Colbert First Baptist Church. She is survived by a daughter, Janet Clement Puig of Athens, a son, James Clement (Carolyn) of Colbert; 3 granddaughters, Leah Halverson (Todd) of Warner Robins, Claire Stefan of Las Vegas, Carrie Kelly (Tim) of Athens; 4 great grandchildren, Evan Halverson, Luke Kelly, Ava Stefan and Bruce Kelly; sister, Myrtle Patterson, brothers Robert S. Clanton, Simmie Clanton Jr, all of Savannah and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mertie and Emmett Simmie Clanton, her brother, Ervin Clanton and her sister, Audrey Long. She volunteered as a Pink Lady for 23 years at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah and at St Mary's Hospital in Athens. Visitation will be Wednesday, September 18 from 5:00-7:00 pm at Fairhaven Funeral Home, Hubert C. Baker Chapel, with funeral services to be held on Thursday, September 19 at 11:00 am at Fairhaven.
