Miranda Connor Obituary

Mt. Olive, NC - Miranda Waters Connor formerly of Claxton, went to her rest after a long and arduous battle with polycystic kidney and liver disease on Thursday, August 28, 2003 at 8:00 p.m. She was born in the village of Daisy, Evans County, Georgia on December 7, 1937. She was the first child of Robert Willis Waters, Sr., and Frances Durrence Waters. Her husband, Douglas Purnell Connor, their three children, and seven grandchildren survive her. A brother, Robert Willis Waters, Jr., and his two daughters, Jennifer Waters Ham, and Miranda Waters Byers, whom she cherished, also survive her. The surviving children and grandchildren are Suzanne Connor Gwynne and husband, Matthew Kemp Gwynne III, with their children, Laura Gwynne Simmons and husband, Neal Gordon Simmons, Rebecca Connor Gwynne and Matthew Kemp Gwynne, IV, Douglas Robert Connor and wife, Carrie McNeill Connor and daughters, Miranda Carol Connor and Kelly Michelle Gavin; also her daughter, Judith Emily "Julie" Boyd and husband, William J. Boyd and their children, Benjamin James Boyd and Caroline Emily Boyd survive. In addition, her stepsister, Caro Hughes Nau of Salem, Wisconsin; stepbrother, Talmadge Smith Hughes of Richmond Hill, GA, survive her. Miranda was a graduate of the Warren A. Candler School of Nursing at Armstrong College in Savannah, as an R.N. Her career included serving as a student health nurse at Walke Forest University and then the founder and first Director of Student Health Services at Mt. Olive College. She served in that capacity for thirteen years until forced to retire due to her illness. Thereafter, she served her friends, church, and family as "Doctor Mom". She was also very active in her hometown serving as a Brownie and Girl Scout leader, a Den Mother for Cub Scouts, bible school teacher, and on several administrative boards of the First United Methodist Church of Mt. Olive. She also served as an R.N. volunteer during local Red Cross blood drives, president of the Newcomers Club, president of the , then, Jaycettes, and many other activities. Memorial services were held at the First Untied Methodist Church of Mt. Olive on Sunday, August 31, 2003, at 2:00 p.m. A visitation after the service was held in the fellowship hall of the church. Flowers are welcome, but memorials to Mt. Olive College Student Health Services or the Polycystic Kidney Disease Foundation will also be appreciated. Tyndall Funeral Home Mt.
