Philip Heidt Obituary

Philip M. Heidt - RINCON - Philip M. Heidt, age 59, passed away at his home Monday morning, August 25, 2008. He was a native resident of Effingham County, where he was actively involved with his church, his work as a realtor and land developer and Hereford cattle farming. Philip was an active, life-long member of Bethel Lutheran Church where he served on Church Council several times. Since 2004, Philip worked as an Associate Broker for Coldwell Banker Commercial Intercoastal Realty in Rincon, and operated as a Developer of Residential, Commercial and Industrial properties. He was owner/broker of Century 21 Heidt Realty from 1984-2004. During this time, he was a Multi-million-dollar agent for 21 consecutive years, and top-producing Commercial Agent in Georgia for three consecutive years. He served as real estate broker for major commercial acquisitions for sites with the U.S. Postal Service, Food Lion, Krystal, Dollar General, Lowe's, Tractor Supply, local Ford and Chevrolet dealerships and other development and sales of commercial and industrial properties. He served as President of the Savannah Board of Realtors and the Savannah Multi-List Corporation. Philip worked as Branch Manager and Loan Officer for the Federal land Bank (Farm Credit Service) for Effingham and Chatham counties from 1977 to 1983, and worked as Traffic Manager and Planning & Scheduling Manager for Certain-Teed Corporation from 1969-1977. He was 1966 graduate of Effingham County High School. In 1987, Philip retired as Technical Sergeant after 20 years of service in the Georgia Air National Guard, Travis Field, Savannah, GA. Philip was a proud advocate of Effingham County. He worked tirelessly for the growth, development, and prosperity of the county to improve the quality of life. He served on the Board of Directors of Citizens Bank of Effingham County, as President of the Chamber of Commerce, and was an Advisory Board Member of the Coastal Georgia Rivers Water and Planning & Policy Committee. Philip's Effingham county roots ran deep. He was of Salzburger decent, and was a Life member of the Georgia Salzburger Society. He also served as Chairman of the Ebenezer Trustees. Philip and his son Chris raised Polled Hereford cattle on the Heidt Family Farm. He was a member of the American Hereford Association, the Georgia Hereford Association, and the Georgia Cattleman's Association. He enjoyed traveling to Hereford farms around the country, and valued the many friendships he made along the way. Philip was an avid fan of professional baseball, collecting baseball memorabilia, and enjoyed attending games with family, friends, and especially with his grandchildren. Philip is survived by a loving family including his wife of 41 years, Linda L. Heidt, two sons Philip Craig Heidt and Christopher L. Heidt (wife Annika) of Springfield, a daughter-in-law, Robin R. Heidt of Rincon, his mother, Libby A. Heidt, of Springfield, two brothers James E. Heidt (wife Sally) of Johns Creek, GA., and Alan T. Heidt, (wife Cathy) of Springfield. Philip is also survived by nephew, Matthew Heidt of Atlanta, and nieces Mary Beth Heidt of Kennesaw, and Morgan Heidt of Springfield. Philip has joined his son Carey A. Heidt and his father Eddie P. I wish i could find the right words to bring you peace. Life is so unfair and sad sometimes that there seems to be nothing that brings comfort or smiles.

However, i remember Mr. Phillip and Carey could always find a smile, and i know that they would want you to find comfort now. i encourage you to remember their smiles in the upcoming days and cherish the wonderful memories that they have instilled in your hearts. i know that i will always remember the laughter that i shared with each of them over the years.

May God bless you and give you strength.

To the family, There are no words to express my deep sadness or to console each of you for this tremendous loss to your family. What a great tribute the crowd at Visitation was to what Philip and Carey meant to everyone who had an opportunity to know them. I have worked closley with Philip for the past several years and found it a pleasure and honor to be in the presence of and associated with such a great and honest person. Praying that you will feel God's presence and His Peace at this sad time and that all your sorrow will soon be replaced only with the beautiful memories you shared. My Way is dark, the billows groan,
No guiding star I see;

But we together, shall reach shore
My precious Lord and I.

Linda and entire Heidt family,
I am so saddened by this tragic loss. I know that the Lord is in control and that your faith is strong. I will miss Philip in so many ways. I was honored to have been his friend. Reading about all of his accomplishments does not even begin to describe Philip and his love of people. He never met a stranger and honestly cared about so many people and causes. He was a man of integrity. Heaven certainly got sweeter on Monday when Carey and Philip arrived. I pray for your strength in the days to follow. We are all here for you. Please let us know if we can help.
