Dear Nona,

I tried to send this earlier to your old address. We were extremely saddened to have seen Bob's name in the obituary section of the paper last week. Our condolences go out to you and your family in mourning the loss of such a special guy. Unfortunately, we did not see this in time for us to attend the wake or the Mass.

We had great memories of Bob. You were both great to be around in our early marriage, we recall with fondness the bridge parties we had at Wood River. There were a lot great friendships that developed as a result of the camaraderie at those events, and Bob was always fun to be around.

He was special to me in the business world as a mentor and compatriot. As in bridge, Bob had the capacity for being a shrewd (or should I say cunning?). But he was also fair minded dealing with people, had a detailed grasp of the issues, and was a good negotiator. Later as our paths seem to cross frequently in various assignments in Amoco, I gained a great respect for Bob's business prowess as a part of the ‘Wood River Mafia'. I and others learned a lot from Bob. I felt especially honored to have followed both Bob and Bob Hilker as Refinery Manager at Savannah.

While we only had occasional glimpses of Bob's family side, I am sure he was a great father and a Godly influence for his family and friends.

Linda and I want to wish you God's blessings, strength, and comfort as we know his passing will create a profound void in the lives of you, the extended family, and also his friends. Please pass these feelings on to the family and especially Bob Jr. We would like to have seen him again.

Our love to you and your family and God blessings and peace in the sad time.

I am sorry to hear of the passing of Bob, he will be greatly missed. He was blessed to live a long, interesting life. Psalms 90:10 says that those who live to be 80 and older have "extra strength", Bob had that extra strength. May you seek the peace and comfort that only God can give during times of grief.
