Robert Pearson Obituary

Robert H. Pearson Retired Vice President of The Northeast Utilities System - SAVANNAH - Robert H. Pearson of Savannah, GA and formerly of Chatham, MA, died August 7, 2009 at the Marshes of Skidaway Island. He was 91. He was born in Fairfield, CT, the son of the late Arthur B. and Emily (Seabridge) Pearson. He graduated from Roger Ludlowe High School in 1934. After two years with General Electric in Bridgeport, he attended Junior College of Connecticut (now the University of Bridgeport) and later transferred to the University of Chicago, graduating in 1941 with a Master's degree in business administration. There he met and married Jeanne Ball, his partner for 54 years until her death in February of 1995. Following early residences in North Haven, CT and Darien, CT, Mr. Pearson resided in Glastonbury, CT from 1957-1979. Since his retirement in 1978 he spent most of his summers in Chatham, MA and, until recently, wintered at his home in Javea, Spain. He moved to Savannah in September of 2008. Mr. Pearson's entire business career was with the electric utility industry in Connecticut, starting with the United Illuminating Company in New Haven, transferring to Connecticut Power Company which merged with Hartford Electric Company and later became part of the Northeast Utilities System from which Mr. Pearson retired as Vice President, Personnel in 1978. He was well known in the personnel field and served as chair of local, state, regional and national associations. Mr. Pearson was active in community affairs in Stamford, Darien, and Glastonbury, Connecticut, serving as chair of several local committees and civic organizations and as president of the Connecticut Jaycees. He had been a member of Eastward Ho Country Club, Monomoy Yacht Club, and Chatham Retired Men's Club. He enjoyed golfing, tennis, sailing, many different types of card games, and any other activities that would stimulate his mind. Over the past several years he kept a running tally of one card game that he played against his daughters. Three years ago, he published his autobiography, The Twentieth Century Unlimited. which recounted many facets of his life that had not been fully known by his daughters and others. Mr. Pearson is survived by his loving and devoted daughters, Karen P. (Mrs. James M.) Staulcup of Geneva, IL and Callawassie Island, SC, Linda Nelsen (Mrs. Richard W.) North of Savannah and Old Saybrook, CT, his granddaughters: Jennifer Staulcup (Mrs. Steve) Kelley of Geneva, IL, Wendy Nelsen (Mrs. Brendhan) O'Bryan of Herderson, NV, Christine Nelsen (Mrs. Tim) Ryan of Fishers, IN, Allison Staulcup (Mrs. Chris) Becwar of Oakland, CA and Jaime Staulcup (Mrs. Steve) Munz of Appleton, WI, six great granddaughters and two great grandsons. One son-in-law (Robert Nelsen), his brothers (Gordon and Richard) and his sister (Helen) predeceased Mr. Pearson. Mr. Pearson requested that there be no services held. His remains will be interred in Oaklawn Cemetery in Fairfield, CT next to Jeanne.
