Sandra Stone Obituary

Sandra Annette Dean Stone - SARASOTA, FL - Sandra, known as Sandy, passed away on May 7, 2011. She and her husband, Tom, first moved to Florida in 1988 and settled on Casey Key in Nokomis. In recent years they have lived in the City of Sarasota. Sandy excelled in her previous diverse professional career. Early on she was a flight attendant for a major airline. She later held managerial and administrative positions in the medical, legal, and telecommunications fields. Just prior to moving to Casey Key she owned a specialty boutique in Washington, D.C. She enjoyed interior decorating, antiquing, and gardening and many felt she had a "green thumb" with flowers and plants in her gardens and home. She loved the beach and the outdoors. And, she and her husband, Tom, enjoyed travel, especially to France, Italy and the Western United States. Sandy always enjoyed composing poetry and verse. And, during her extended illness, she pursued that and found comfort in writing many poems and verses for her husband, friends and family. Sandy is survived by her beloved husband, Tom, of over 26 years of marriage. They had no children together. Sandy is predeceased by her parents and had no children or siblings. She was born and grew up in Birmingham, Alabama. There will be no visitation or service in Sarasota. Funeral: 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 14, 2011 in the Hodgson Chapel of Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors conducted by The Reverend Gavin G. Dunbar. Burial will be private. Friends desirous of honoring her memory with a contribution are asked to consider making it to the Johns Hopkins Ovarian Cancer Center of Excellence by writing a check to Johns Hopkins University noting Sandra's name in the memo section of the check and sending it to Johns Hopkins Ovarian Cancer Center of Excellence, 100 N. I still think of Sandra as my best friend in high school and for many years after. I know she was very happy with her husband Tom. I still think about her often.

Tom we never met but I was one of Sandra's best friends throughout high school and we had stayed in touch throughout the years. We lost contact with each other when you moved to Sanibel Island. I have been searching Facebook and couldn't find her. I am so sorry for your loss and my heart is aching to know she is not with us, but happy she is in a better place. She and I went to our 25 year class reunion together. I remember her calling you and saying she loved you. I'm so glad you had these happy years together. I will always remember her as one of my best friends. Connie Wilkinson Weaver
