To Lavon and Children,
It sadden me to hear of Mr. Steve's passing. I meet Mr. Steve and Ms. Lavon through my father Lonnie Carter, when you all lived in front on 41st and Reynolds Street (many years ago). Those were the GOOD DAYS! My dad did cookouts and Mr. Steve as I called him always came over with a smile on his face and a hug for everyone. I can even recall seeing him downtown (taking his daily scroll) with the most pleasant smile on his face saying, "hey baby doll how is daddy doing?" You all are in my prayers and may God provide you with the strength to carry you through this time of need.

To the Wright Family
It is with much sadness that we write this tribute. Steve was a very good friend that we have known for many years. We will miss him greatly. But we understand that it was his time to depart this world to be with his Heavenly Father. May his family be comforted during this time of great sorrow to know that he is now free from suffering and wants you to be strong. Remember those good times he shared with you and understand it is not always the length of time that we spend with our loved ones, it is the quality of the time spent. You have the memories of those wonderful times with Steve that will sustain you.
We pray that God will give you comfort and strength.

Lavonne has been braiding my hair since I was a little girl and Steve would usually come home for lunch see me and crack jokes and made me laugh. He was a good man with a natural happy spirit and I could tell that he had deep love and appreciation for his family. I knew he was a musician but I didn't know he was a savannah high alum like myself so maybe thats why I always felt a kinship with him . I appreciated the person that he was and I know he is joyous in heaven right now. God bless his soul and his entire family. Chakia Proctor and Family.

Dear LaVonne,
I was saddened to hear of your loss. Steve always had a glad countenance regardless of the day's difficulties. I was privileged to know him and help direct the financial path you both so richly deserve. May God hold you in His hand and give you the support needed to accept His will. I'm unable to work at the Credit Union anymore, but I'll be an available friend for life.

Vonn & Family: To learn of Steve's passing was a hard pill. I do pray for you all that He will keep you covered under His blood. Remember, if He said it, He meant it, because He cannot lie. Three things you cannot forget: family, good times and old friends. We will always remember you and Steve. Steve left a positive note with me when I heard him play his sax solo, then he began singing: 'Though the storms keep on raging in my life .....my soul has been anchored in the Lord'. I felt those words then, and I know it has grown in his life. That's why he was able to keep a positive attitude and was willing to help anyone, with that smile you can't forget. He will be sorely missed. Much love to you.

To the Wright Family:

I had the pleasure of meeting Steve in 1994 while working at the Corps of Engineers. My heart broke into pieces when I learned of his death, and I cannot imagine the depth of your sorrow. I wish I had words to comfort and sustain you in your grief, but I know there are none that will take away any pain you are feeling now. My heart aches for you. Even my knees know your grief, as I have been on them in prayer for your family.

Although words seem futile now in the midst of your sorrow, I want to express my deepest and sincere condolences. Steve was a great Friend and I will forever remember his smile. He was an Angel that God allowed to grace us for a minute. He has truly ‘Gone Too Soon’.

LaVonne & Family,

May almighty God lift the heavy burden of sorrow off your hearts. I know he will. I pray Steve enters the lord's pearly gates of paradise. During my time of knowing Steve and while we were colleagues working at the Corps, Steve was always encouraging and inspirational. Especially if you had a chance to hear him play the SAX. He would always refer to me as his little brother. RIP Big Brother! Job well done.

LaVonne and Family,
Just reminising about the times and conversations I shared with Steve when he was a member of First Bryan. He always had something uplifting to say and was the same joyful, humble person everytime I saw him. I can hear that beautiful voice and hear him play that saxaphone..it was like listening to music from heaven. Please know that your husband was loved and respected by me and many others. You are in the prayers of many. GOD bless you and "Look to the hills from whense comes all your help and strength"

Sorry to hear of this! I accidently ran across the obit just perusing the Savannah local paper. I had to just sit back and take a breath. I met Steve when he used to come to Savannah from New York each summer to spend time with his grandaunt and granduncle, Mr. and Mrs. Claude Green. They lived across the street from me and my parents on East 35th Street and Liveoak Street. He was just a kid of 15 at that time. The kids on our block used to love to play cards and Steve wanted to play but he did not know how to shuffle the cards and he wanted to do it like the professionals all fancy and stuff. Well, he made me sit on the porch and give him lessons and show him how to shuffle a deck of cards in all the hot summer heat! Wow. Years passed by and we just sort of went our ways (just the natural order of things that happens as we grow from kids into adults in search of new direction or to find ourselves or our nitch in life. The friendship we shared still existed because that was the kind of person Steve was! One could never feel like a stranger to Steve. If he knew you, that was just it, he treated you just as though there was never a gap in communication. God bless Steve for his legacy. Steve loved life and as I recall it, he enjoyed it tremendously. God bless the Wright Family. God bless his loving wife whom he always tell me that he loved endearingly. At the mention of her name, he'd give this great big smile and boy did Steve have a laugh for you. He had that infectious laugh you could not escape. It is God's will and we will yeild to it. It is his plan. With deepest respect and in honour of his life and labour, Teresa Macon Jackson, North Jacksonville, Fla, formerlly of Savannah, Ga.(alumni of SHS and SSU)

LaVonne & Family,
My heart breaks for you. Steve was the best! We meet him 18 years ago when Von started braiding Courtney's hair. He treated us like family from day one. My Goodness Von, if I am blessed to have a husband to love me the way Steve loved you! Watching the two of you together was witnessing "True Unconditional Love" for each other. We are sad because he's gone, but I smile because I had the honor of knowing him.

Please accept our condolences, during this difficult time. Death leaves a heartache no one can heal. Love leaves a memory no one can steal. It's difficult today to see beyond the sorrow. May looking back in memories help comfort your tomorrow. It breaks our heart to lose him, but he did not go alone. A part of us went with him the day God called him home.
