Suzanne Reid

Suzanne Marie Reid - SAVANNAH - Suzanne Marie Reid, 87, died following a short illness on December 28, 2016 at her home surrounded by family. Born in Cleveland, Ohio on March 29, 1929, she lived in that area most of her life before moving to the Landings on Skidaway Island, Georgia in 1994. She spent the summer months in her beloved Chautauqua, New York for more than 50 years. A life-long learner, at age 62 she graduated from Ursuline College Magna Cum Laude with a degree in Literature and studied at Harvard and Cambridge Universities. She was passionate about the written word loving both the classics and contemporary and was active in book clubs and education. In addition to raising a family and holding non-profit volunteer positions in the Cleveland, Savannah and Chautauqua areas, she was a journalist contributing to various publications including employed on the staff of the Chagrin Valley Times. She was an avid golfer, tennis player, skier and fitness enthusiast and made many close friends through those activities. She is survived by her husband of 65 remarkable years, Thurston Kevil Reid; her children, Sherry Reid [Steve West], Hollister Reid Orza [Quentin Skip] and Christopher Thurston Reid [Mary Anne]; her sister Geraldine Mazza; 5 grandchildren; nieces, nephews; and countless dear friends. She will be remembered by all for her extraordinary quick wit and sense of humor. She found it in most every situation, even at her own expense. She was an exceptional person and possessed the charm and magnetism that drew people of all ages to her and brought happiness to those she knew. The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Friday, January 6, 2017 at Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 p.m. on the same day.
