Thomas Deason Obituary

Thomas L. "Tommy" Deason, 70, of Savannah, went home to be with the Lord on Feb 5, 2006 at Hospice Savannah. Tommy lived his life by the Golden Rule and the 10 Commandments. He said, "If you live by these rules, you are fully covered." He was born on June 23, 1935, in Savannah. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church. He attended Commercial High School and was a drummer in the ROTC Band. He joined the US Navy on his 18th birthday and was assigned to the USS Johnson DE 583 for 18 months, after which he was assigned to the USS Mansfield DD 728 to go overseas. He was honorably discharged from the US Navy on Oct 11, 1957. He retired from Atlantic Cement Company with 21 years of service after having previously been employed with Nabisco Company and Derst Baking Company. He was a drummer with numerous bands in Savannah, often with the Stringer Brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents, James Edwards Deason, Sr., and Edna B. Deason and his former wife, Carol K. Deason. He is survived by two sons and a daughter in law, Richard Thomas and Anna Deason of Marietta and Randall Joseph Deason of Savannah; four grandchildren, Kayla Ann Grenier, Stephanie Deason, Sam Deason and Hadley Deason; two step grandchildren, Whitney Smith and Daniel Smith; four sisters, Mary Pepitone Edwards of Savannah, Ga., Joan Evans (James) of Rincon, Ga., Rena West (Dan) of Cobbtown and Betty Powell (Richard) of Savannah; two brothers, James Edwards Deason, Jr., (Barbara) of Sylvania and John Henry Deason of Newington and a host of nieces, nephews and friends. Visitation was held 6-8 p.m., Tuesday at the Hubert C. Baker Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Memorial Contributions are asked to be made to Hospice Savannah, Inc., P.O.
