Wilson McElveen Obituary

Wilson Lee McElveen - SAVANNAH - Wilson Lee McElveen, age 84, passed away in his sleep early Saturday morning December 31, 2011. He was born in Bulloch County in 1927 to William Lee and Bernice Wilson McElveen. He lived most of his life in Savannah, Georgia. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Vivian Folds McElveen, daughter Pamela (Stephen) Duda, son Michael McElveen, and adopted family Tuan and Yen Hoang, Yuen, Huyen and Eugene (deceased). Grandchildren Alexander, Matthew, and Nathaniel Duda and Michael McElveen Jr. along with thirteen great grandchildren. Lee was preceded in death by his Brothers William, Jackson, and Virgil McElveen and is survived by his Sisters Nell Lee, Laurie McLaughlin, Gloria Ellis and Brother Charles McElveen. He also has a large number of loving nieces and nephews. Lee served in the U.S. Merchant Marines on Victory Ships at the end of World War II and in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service in 1986 after 28 years of service. A lifelong active church member, Lee belonged to the White Bluff Presbyterian Church for the last 17 years. He enjoyed fishing, boating, gardening and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren who affectionately knew him as Papa. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 7, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Bluff Presbyterian Church.
