Yvonne Jenkins Obituary

Yvonne DeNitto Jenkins SAVANNAH - Yvonne DeNitto Jenkins died June 12, 2007 at Hospice House of Savannah. Yvonne was preceded in death by her parents, John and Germaine DeNitto, her brothers, Bernard and Paul DeNitto and her beloved husband of sixty years, Harold T. Jenkins. Yvonne was born in Jamestown, New York in 1925. At the age of four, she and her family moved to Brooklet, Georgia. After graduating from high school, she moved to Savannah and worked for 30 years at Savannah Machine and Foundry as the Director of Personnel. Yvonne was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church and, later, St. James Church. She was also a member of the Legion of Mary and the Savannah Italian Club. She was very active in the American Society of Personnel Associates and instrumental in starting the Republican Women's Committee in Savannah. Among her hobbies were gardening whereby she transformed the back yard of her home on Branywine into a veritable garden of camellias and azaleas; and cooking, a skill wherein she mixed the best of her southern upbringing and French-Italian heritage to produce Christmas Eve meals which included antipasto appetizers, fried chicken and bouillabaisse stew over linguine. The most important thing in Yvonne's life was her family. To that end, she was the DeNitto family historian and maintained contact with both French and Italian cousins in the "old country" whom she loved dearly. She and her husband, Harold , traveled throughout Europe on several trips visiting family and the places where her mother and father were born(Chemaze, France and Gaeta, Italy, respectively). They also took a cross-country tour of the United States with French cousins, Paul and Ginette Saturnino. She is survived by two daughters, Jeanne Bandy (husband, Martin) and Joanne Jenkins (husband, Joseph Dahm) ; grandchildren, Mark Bandy, Marie Wall (husband, Mike), Michael Bandy, Jennifer Dahm Quinn(husband, Greg) and Rebecca Dahm Nostrand (husband, Peter);great-grandchildren Sophia and Camille Wall; nieces Patty Hildreth (husband, Jim), Donna Burns(husband, Mark), and Joan Roberts (husband, Dave );and nephews Bernard DeNitto (wife, Sue) and S.
