I lived in Oceanside, Ca. and was Blakes' closest surfing buddy from about the summer of 1961 until I got married in the summer of 1963. We surfed a lot at the end of Grandview St. in Leucadia . Blakes folks used to furnish him a little Renault Dauphene (?) car. We would also go over to the Oceanside Boys Club together to lift weights at night. After I got married and my wife had my son who was born on Mar 15, 1964. The only work I could find was as a dishwasher at Scandia Bakery in Oceanside (where I also had to work on Saturday's - it was impossible for me to get a replacemenrt and because of the financial desperation I was in, I was unable to attend Blake's Wedding).
Bonnie, I had met you a couple of times and once my x wife and I drove up to Deer Creeek (?) and Blake was called out on a forest fire and you entertained us. I had lost contact with Blake for many years and was finally able to locate him on the internet and so I then called him and he met my wife and I at the Olive Gardens in Victorville and we had a nice chat and Blake mentioned that we both had very good parents. That was in 2012 and I was very impressed that Blake's mother was still alive at that time (having lost both of my parents years before - my folks also thought a lot of Blake).
Mine and my wife's (Joanne's.) most sincere condolences to your family

Very sad to hear of the passing of R. "Blake" Brinkerhoff. I worked under his command when he was the Lieutenant assigned to the Sheriff's Homicide Detail. I remember he was very handsome and always wore his cowboy boots. Rest in peace and may the Lord give your family comfort during this most difficult time.
