Edward Alvarado Obituary

A beautiful soul graduated from earth on March 15, 2022. Edward John Alvarado passed away at 67 years old in Upland, California. He was preceded in death by his brother Elias and sister Gracie and leaves behind his lovely wife, Kim, his two children Eddie, (Audrey) and Trisha, (Chris) as well as his two sisters Irene & Emily, his four grandchildren, and many beloved friends and family. Born December 29, 1954, to Grace and Elias Alvarado, Ed was the youngest of five siblings: Irene, Gracie, Lee, Creamy & Eddie. Being that he came into the world ten years after his next eldest sibling, he grew up like an only child in some ways. He was raised in Pomona, California, and fell in love with playing the guitar at a very young age. He started playing and taking lessons at five years old and continued playing throughout the rest of his life. His very first guitar lessons taught him to play mariachi-style music (which he wasn't a fan of) he wanted to play rock 'n' roll and he did eventually. He was in several different bands over the years, Dizmo, Tuesday's Brew, and Rat Bastard, to name a few; they played mostly rock and blues but Ed never changed instruments, he always stayed loyal to the guitar. Over time, Ed learned how to work on and eventually build guitars from scratch. Ed graduated from Gary High School in 1973 and then he went on to start his career with GTE in 1977. He was hired on as a garage mechanic and promoted quickly. He ultimately worked with GTE/Verizon for over thirty years and retired as a Special Services Designer, designing high bandwidth circuits. Ed was very mechanically inclined, he had a curious mind and a knack for figuring out how things worked. Ed's quick wit and kindness made him a beloved coworker to many. Ed became a father in 1981 when his son and namesake, Eddie was born. Two years later his then-wife, Linda gave birth to their baby girl Trisha, in 1983. Ed blossomed into a wonderful dad and then later a grandfather. He was a supportive, affectionate, and loving dad and grandpa. Ed spent the second half of his life in Upland, California where he met his wife of 19 years, Kim Buysman. In his retired years Ed picked up the new hobby of home brewing beer which he became quite good at (not surprisingly.) He also spent his time playing music with his peers, investing in many friendships and relationships, binge-watching the current hottest TV series, and going to various music events to watch his favorite musicians perform. Ed was always the first one in the morning to wish his kids and grandkids a happy birthday. He always made sure to show up for whatever life event was taking place and he was consistently reaching out to coordinate the next get-together. Ed is remembered as someone who always made people feel good, someone who could be counted on, and someone who was always ready to instigate a laugh. He was thoughtful, kind, and generous. He was creative, hilarious, and a good storyteller. Ed Alvarado was a special man and will be missed dearly. Edward Alvarado's Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 1:00 pm at his home in Upland, California.

I worked in Special Services with Ed at the phone company. We had such a wonderful group of friends on our team. Ed, Val Williams and Jacki DeJurnett.
Ed was always staying in shape and watching his food and drink. He had a special love for a 16 oz. beer in a can in a brown paper sack. That beer in a bag was something he looked forward to. He also loved music. Ed taught me how to listen to music. To appreciate it, and he always knew what songs were playing on KLOS...the song, the band...every time. Scott and I would go watch him with Roach at gigs and Ed's band played great songs. They would play Moondance the Van Morrison classic and I'd dance like a crazy white person! Ed had a Rolodex full of funny things we all said. I never got to look through it, but he told me that he had the most Rolodex cards of dumb stuff I'd say.
More than beer, more than music, Ed loved his kids. Little Eddy and Trish would come visit him at work, he was so proud of the,. I'm so very sorry his kids and grandkids won't have more time with him.
My deepest sympathy for Kim and all his family.
In friendship and love, Susan LeBlanc

I was shocked to hear of Eddie's passing. I just commented on one of his FB posts which made me laugh and reminded me of my childhood growing up. I miss growing up and not keeping in contact, until recently reconnecting on FB. What a shock. You were a little older, but one of the kindest cousins we had. I remember going to your house when grandma lived in the house in the back, and when you also lived down the street from your sister Gracie. All the birthday parties. I wish I had gotten to see you play in public. I only heard you practice on rare occasions at home, I think. You touched so many lives and were kind to all. I love hearing about the person I missed knowing the past few years. RIP in God's home. Hopefully we'll all see you in our time. God's peace and comfort to all those who miss you, especially Kim and your immediate family.

Ed was such a special guy. So many of us grew up together in Pomona and were able to re-connect through Facebook. Catching up and re-connecting about our lives after graduation has been great. I´m thankful that Ed shared his life with Kim. His love for his family, friends, music and brewing showed in his smile. Rest In Peace my friend. You will be remembered and missed.

So many things to say about my Brother Eddie. But I´ll let my heart and thoughts do that. He´ll hear me. I´ve known Eddie for 56 years plus. So many memories during that time. With his life long friends (Ed Acosta, my brother Bobby, George Melendez and you too Dana) We had a blast. They "learned how to be cool". Long hair and Levi´s were happening. John Hardy and Rodgers shoes were in the mix. Eddie began wearing his signature plaid shirts. Being "mischief " was the thing. But a "cool mischief ". You´ll always be remembered Eddie. Never forgotten. What a great journey my young brother. With love always the "Roots".

I've only had the please of knowing Ed and Kim for 6-7 years and I still find it hard to believe Ed is gone. What a kind, gentle, loving, talented and intelligent soul. No matter what I was rambling on about he was completely interested in what I had to say. God love him!
I live in AZ and we actually met through mutual friends from facebook of all places. But whenever I was in CA visiting family we would get together have a beer or two and always a shot of Tequila or two listen to music, go see Backstreet wherever they were playing or practicing.
What a amazing guy and I will always treasure our friendship.
Rest in Peace my friend.

I am shocked to hear this incredibly sad news. My condolences to his family and loved ones. I knew Ed from working at GTE/Verizon. Such a sweet character and a smile from ear to ear. We would talk about our families and what we had planned for the weekend, and we'd both share how we couldn't wait to retire so we can spend more time with our family. Ed you were a sweet soul and truly going to be missed.
