EILEEN MARIE McCARTHY

Born on September 11, 1921, to Fred and Lorretta Dean in New York City, NY, and died on May 6, 2011, at Sunlit Gardens Assisted Living in Alta Loma, CA. She was 89 years old. In 1940 she married the love of her life, John E. McCarthy. In 1949 they moved from New York to Upland, CA, to raise their family. John preceded her in death in 1991, after they moved to Apple Valley, CA, to retire. They were married 51 years. Raised 5 children, Daniel (wife-Bernice) of Laughlin, NV, John (wife-Kay) of Upland, CA, Michael (wife-Melva) of Upland, CA, Kathleen Schenk of Sioux Center, IA, and Patrick of Osage Beach, MO. Twenty Grandchildren, twenty five Great Grandchildren, and 2 Great Great Grandchildren. Eileen was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church of Upland for 40 years and of St. Joan of Arc in Victorville for 20 years. She enjoyed traveling, servicing her community, and being with her family and friends. One of the highlights of her life was when the City of Upland dedicated and named a Park at San Antonio Ave. and 20th Street after her late husband, John McCarthy for all of the dedicated work they did when John was a City Councilman and Mayor of Upland. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Charter Hospice at 1012 E. Cooley Dr., Ste. G, Colton, CA 92324. Stone Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
