Moana Alice Plotkin
Born October 11, 1941 in Arcadia, CA, passed on December 4, 2012 after a sudden illness. She will be remembered for her selfless devotion to others and her kind, compassionate spirit.
Born to Jack and Amy Hendricks, Moana was the first in a family of five, followed by brother Joe, sister Mary, brother Dave and sister Denise. She grew up in Arcadia and attended UCLA where she would meet her husband and partner of 40 years, Barry Plotkin. Moana went on to earn a Master's Degree in School Psychology at USC.
Moana spent 38 years serving as a school psychologist for the Riverside County Office of Education. There, she often worked with the most challenging of cases, offering her love, support and service to children in need while endearing herself to her co-workers with her friendly and loving personality.
Moana and Barry settled in Upland where they raised four children, Mary, Randy, Jack and Amy. Her children remember her deep sense of compassion, her unconditional love and overwhelming generosity. Her favorite moments were spent with her family by her side, sitting around a table, drinking a glass of wine, and enjoying one another's company.
She was lucky enough to get to know her first two grandchildren, Samantha and Thomas, whom she loved deeply. In the last months of her life, she witnessed the birth of her two newest grandchildren, Luke and Emery, and she held them both in her arms.
Moana showed kindness, mercy and compassion to all she knew and she left a mark on everyone she touched. She will be greatly missed. Services will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of Upland on December 12 at 2pm with a reception to follow at the home of the family.
