Raymond Gregory Obituary
RAYMOND H. GREGORY Was born on April 7, 1912 in San Diego, California to Jack and Eithel Gregory and at the age of 94 years. He passed away on January 26, 2007 in Vista, CA. Ray retired and moved to Vista, CA in 1974 to share his golden years with his lovely wife of 57 years Vivian Gregory. He was a prominent figure and his distinguished political career began as the Mayo r of San Bernardino, CA. Mayor Gregory diligently served three consecutive terms for the City of San Bernardino in 1951, 1953 and 1955, laying the groundwork for a subsequent leading role in the State of California government. As State Senator 36th Senatorial District he served in the California Legislature from 1957 to 1959, a term in which he was able to assist in shaping the state's development. He was a politician at heart and to know him was to love him. Ray always had something encouraging and complim entary to say about his fellow man and he cherished cultivating and keeping friendships. He served his country proudly during World War II for a four year period in the U.S. Army stationed in the South Pacific on New Guinea. Surviving family members are his beloved wife Vivian, his sister Catherine Hargrove of Costa Mesa, CA, his three nieces Barbara Hanson of Honolulu, HI, Cindy Pearson of Big Bear Lake, CA and Patricia Friedman of Staten Island, NY, along with his two nephews Jack Neal and Tim Hargrov e of Costa Mesa, CA. An Inspiration service will be held at the Riverside National Cemetery on March 28, 2007 at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers the family is requesting a contribution to the USDA Forest Service Plant a Tree Program. Ray was an avid lover of the outdoors and he would be proud to have a hand in reforestation of his beloved San Bernardino Mountains.
