Tula Davis Obituary
TULA DAVIS, 83, of Highland, went home to be with the Lord on November 25, 2008, with her family by her side. Born July 24, 1925, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Greek immigrant parents, Condilo and Gerasimous Mahalas, she attended Ensley High School a nd graduated in 1943. Shortly after graduation she became an executive secretary in Birmingham for a large corporation. In 1945 she met and married the love of her life, Chris Davis, remaining by his side with love and devotion for the last 63 years. In 1955 she and her family moved to Southern California, where they resided in both Rialto and Highland. Tula and her family became members of the Saint Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church and attended services weekly. Tula was instrumental in establishing the "Hellenic Comedy Group" in the early 1960's, which performed comedy skits and shows for the local community for the benefit of the church. A devoted and loving mother, Tula was voted " Mother of the Year" by the Saint Irene's Phioloptochos Society, a charitable church organization on Mothers Day 2003. In the 1980's Tula helped operate the Chris Davis Supper Club in Rialto, where she greeted all who came through the door with her caring nature and warm smile, until her retirement in 1990. Also during this time Tula attended specialized training and volunteered her kind and caring nature to help others as a mediator for the Superior Court in the Dispute Resolution Department in San Bernardino. Throughout her life, Tula believed and lived a life which was deep rooted in faith and committment in Christ our Lord. For 30 years Tula served as a leader, friend and mentor to hundreds of Christ's followers with Christian Bible Study at the Emanuel Baptist Church in Highland and the Bible Study Fellowship at the Unit ed Methodist Church in Yucaipa. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher at St. Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church. During her life she touched others with her deep faith of Christ, love of family, strong family values and strong Greek traditions. Tula was preceded in death by her parents, Condilo and Gerasimous Mahalas, and her brothers, Michael Panos, George Panos and James Panos. She is survived by her husband, Chris Davis; and her sons, Dr. Nicholas Davis (KiKi) and Lt. Jerry Davis (Jami); daughter , Kimberly Davis; 7 grandchildren, Christopher Davis (Kasey), Kia Wronka (Chad), Tara Davis, Joshua Davis, Suzanna Ascensio, Lauren Cervantez and Madison Perez; and sister, Mary Ross (George) of Atlanta; and brother, Spiro Mahalas (Sandy) of Florida. Trisagion Services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008, at 7:00 P.M. at Saint Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church, 1035 Inland Center Drive, San Bernardino, California. Funeral Services will be held at Saint Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church on Thur sday, December 4, 2008, at 10:00 A.M. Interment will immediately follow at Montecito Memorial Park and Mortuary, 3520 East Washington St., Colton, California, 92324. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Saint Prophet Elias Greek Orthodox Church Building Fund.
