Super-late entry, but thought it might be meaningful nevertheless as I still vividly remember working under him as a junior medical student, after which I requested to work with him again as a sub-intern (senior medical student), and then again (after matching to LLU for combined Internal Medicine / Pediatrics residency) as an intern. He was a soft-spoken, encouraging leader who exemplified real compassion for patients. I remember one morning during rounds post-call when we were all tired as this was before there were work hour-restrictions. Dr. Hardt had to take a phone call, so my senior resident took me aside & gently reprimanded me for including "all that unnecessary stuff" such as the patient's spiritual history (what tradition they follow & if faith was important to them) in my presentations. I duly took note of the senior resident's preferences, but when Dr. Hardt returned from his phone call, without a hitch he began, "Oh, before we go on with rounds, I wanted to thank Sidney for including the patient's spiritual history in his presentations as this is a very important part of patients' health..." You should have seen the senior resident's face (he was standing behind Dr. Hardt) as he silently mouthed to me, "Ya got me, man! Ya got me!" Many, many thanks to Dr. Hardt for his support, even the unwitting parts!

Dr. Hardt was a good man. I was one of the last residents to work with him before his diagnosis. He would invite residents to come over to his house for dinner. He seemed like he truly cared for the well being of others. I'm certain he will awaken in the first ressurrection.

Maria-- I was so sorry to hear that Bill had passed away. His support throughout Danny's cancer treatment was so appreciated. I know he fought hard. So glad that next time you see him he will be healed and pain free. Praise God for His love and mercy. You and your family are in my prayers. Love Lynn

Dear Maria, It has been years since I last saw Bill. I used to work with him at the Lab in Exeter, Ca. Bill, Jerry Jones, and I were like the Three Musketeers and I am so saddened by his early death. I had no idea that he had become a physician. I lost my husband in 2006 so I feel the pain you and your family must be going through. My thoughts and prayers will be with you and the family during this very trying time. Janet (Scott) Betchel

I'm still saddened by his death. I will miss my time and work with him. I regarded Bill as my mentor/role model, friend, co-worker, and family. He will lead young physicians like myself in following his footsteps to success. I will remember and try to be like him everyday!

I'm so saddened by the news of Bill's premature death. I'm reminded of how much love and support you both showed Glen and me during his illness. I can only hope that i/we can show the same support to you at this time. He was a kind, thoughtfu., caring person/physician who left this world a better place. Know that you and your family will be in my thoughts and prayers. Arlene Blix, Corona, CA

Dear Maria and Family,
Was saddened to hear of the loss of Your Dear One. He is now resting but not for long. Jesus is coming Soon!!!!
One of the Great aspects of all this is that he gets to Rest while the most Major Traumas of Earth's History are about to take place.

Dear Maria,
I was surprised to read Bill's obituary. I have fond memories of working with you in the clinical laboratory at Visalia Medical Clinic, and later having Bill as my primary care doctor.

Bill and I were on many of the same rotations in IM residency. He had the record for the most admissions in 1 night. A really good, soft spoken guy.
