Amelio Cola Obituary

Amelio Cola, 92, of Minersville, passed away unexpectedly Thursday evening at Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center after admission. Born in Minersville, he was a son of the late Francesco and Clementina Marianangeli Cola. A lifelong resident of Minersville, he attended Minersville schools and was employed in the local mining industry. He later worked at the former ALCOA plant and the former Extrudo Mfg. Co. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the Army Air Corps. He was a member of St. Barbara Roman Catholic Church, Minersville. He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Julia Yaworsky, in 2001; a sister, Rose, in infancy; and a brother, Amerigo, in 1993. Surviving are a son, Frank Cola, Connecticut; two daughters, Sally McShaw, Pottsville, and Janet, wife of Joseph Pielacha, Primrose; two grandchildren, Jessica Shappell and Joel Pielacha; two great-grandchildren, Katelyn and Brandon Shappell; two brothers, Dante and Frank Cola, both of Minersville; a sister, Mary Oswald, Harrisburg; and nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Dutcavich Funeral Home from 6 p.m. Monday evening and from 6 a.m until 9:15 a.m. Tuesday morning. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in St. Barbara Church at 10 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be in the parish cemetery, Branch Township.
