Caitlin McGarry Obituary
Born in Pottsville, May 25, 1994, she was a daughter of Robert E. and Crystal A. DeWald McGarry.
She was a graduate of Schuylkill Haven Area High School, Class of 2012, and received a bachelor's degree in civil engineering from Penn State University.
Caitlin was employed as a civil engineer for PennDOT District 5, Allentown.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Pottsville.
Caitlin was always involved throughout her time in high school as her class treasurer, a member of the National Honor Society, and was the recipient of the Girl Scout Silver Award.
Beyond this, she was Schuylkill Haven's Female Scholar Athlete in 2012, and was a member of the cross country, track and field, swim and dive, and soccer teams.
Caitlin dedicated so much of her time to Penn State's THON, and served as a chair, dancer and committee member over her four years at Penn State. She was also a well-loved and dedicated member of Penn State Club Swim, where she met many of her best friends and lifelong soulmates. She was also a member of the Society of Women Engineers.
"Coach Caitlin" treasured her many years as a swimmer, and committed herself to coaching young swimmers as a youth swim coach for Schuylkill Haven.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Thomas and Patricia McGarry.
In addition to her parents, Caitlin is also survived by a brother, Kyle McGarry; maternal grandparents, Sam and Colleen DeWald; aunts and uncles, Deb DeWald Kaplan and husband, Bruce, Tricia Sanchez and husband, Mike, Kathy Gustas and husband, Jim, Jack McGarry and wife, Carole, Gene McGarry, and Ann Pat Conway and husband, John; cousins, Mel Kaplan, Scott, Marc and Brad Gustas, Evan, Connor and Shane McGarry, Kelsey, Matt, Jake and Avery McGarry, and Madison and Lexi Sanchez.
Caitlin always lived her life for others, and valued the incredible friendships she has made at home and at Penn State more than anything.
For all of those who knew Caitlin, and even those who did not, a visitation will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at First United Methodist Church, Pottsville. An additional visitation time will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at the church. A Celebration of Life memorial service will be conducted at noon Saturday at First United Methodist Church, Pottsville, with the Rev. John Wallace officiating. Interment will be privately held at the family's convenience. The family requests donations in Caitlin's memory to First United Methodist Church, 330 W. Market St., Pottsville, PA 17901, or to the Caitlin McGarry Scholarship Fund, C/O Santander Bank, 24/28 E. Main St., Schuylkill Haven, PA 17972. Bob and family. Gretchen and I are so heartbroken over your loss. I didn't have the honor of knowing Caitlin but by knowing and working with you for many years on the Crippled Children's Board I am sure that she was a very talented and accomplished young lady. The outpouring of love for such a remarkable person underscores the impact she had on all those who knew her. Although I never met Caitlin, her impression on those who had met, and the lives she touched have transcended well beyond those she met, she was a special gift to this earth and will forever be remembered for her incredible spirit, she is surely an angel in heaven for her influences here on earth!

I do not know your daughter. But I have a beautiful well accomplished 23 year old daughter myself as Caitlyn. I cannot imagine the last year of your lives and now the actual loss of Caitlyn. My sincere condolences to your family. I did not know Caitlin but her obit touched me. The loss of a life yet to be fully lived is always sad but hers seems especially sad because she was such a giving and thoughtful woman. The world is a lesser place without her.

Dear Bob, Crystal, Kyle, family and friends,
Please accept my heartfelt thoughts and prayers for you, Caitlin and your entire family. I didn't get the privilege to know you all before Caitlin came to us, but I want you to know that during her entire stay you and your family were always caring, loving, strong, and courteous to staff. With all that you were going through, you still had the strength to ask us how we were, and I have the utmost respect for Bob and Crystal and all of your family. We all prayed for Caitlin, every day. I am impressed with your ability to remain strong. Please know we are thinking of you and we were privileged to care for Caitlin.
