Gene Starr Obituary

Gene Lawrence Starr Sr., 75, of Middleport, passed away July, 17, 2022, at his residence.

Born June 23, 1947, in Coaldale, he was a son of the late Lester and Verna Stapleton Starr.

Gene was a welder by trade and last employed by Weiner Iron and Metal, Pottsville. He was previously employed by Lehigh Coal and Navigation, Tamaqua, and Dana, Reading.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by brothers, Charles and Jackie Starr; sisters, Juanita Clemens, Betty Yemem and Kathleen Farrell.

Gene is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Gail Stasko Starr, Middleport; son, Gene Starr Jr., Plymouth, and spouse, Michael Hewitt; daughter, Rebecca, wife of Scott Bergan, Schuylkill Haven; brothers: Raymond and Lester; sister, Sue Dabravalskie; grandchildren, Paige and Addison Bergan; several nieces and nephews.

Celebration of Life services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday by the Rev. Monsignor William F. Glossar at Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home, New Philadelphia. Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Holy Family Cemetery, New Philadelphia. Thomas J. Bartashus Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
