Geraldine C. "Gerri" (Hughes) Flynn, 85, of Shenandoah, passed away peacefully Sunday, Sept. 26, 2021, with family at her side.
Born July 20, 1936, in Shenandoah, she was a daughter of the late Edward and Frances (Zkosky) Hughes.
She was a 1954 graduate of the former West Mahanoy Township High School, Shenandoah Heights.
Prior to her retirement, she was last employed at the Shenandoah Valley Elementary School as secretary to the principal for 28 years. Earlier, she was a bookkeeper for Shen-Ann Dress Factory for 12 years.
Gerri was a member of Divine Mercy Parish, Shenandoah, and the former Annunciation BVM Church, where she was a very active volunteer for all parish functions and fundraisers. She was also a member of Glover's Hill Athletic Club Ladies Auxiliary, Shenandoah. She was an avid Phillies and Notre Dame fan and enjoyed going to area bingos and casinos.
Above all else, Gerri cherished the time spent with her family.
Preceding her in death, in addition to her parents, were her husband, Gerald A. "Jerry" Flynn, on March 29, 2019; three brothers, Joseph, Edward and Bernard Hughes; three sisters, Mary Mulroy, Frances Mack and Catherine M. "Kitty" Donovan; her son-in-law, Robert Klinger; her black furry friend, her cat, Ben.
Surviving are her daughter, Debra Aponick Klinger, of Gordon, with whom she resided; two grandchildren, Sheila Quick and her husband, Jason, of Gordon, and Jenna Gradwell, of Pottsville; seven great-grandchildren, Kaeli, Abby, Jacob, Novah, Ezra, Scarlett and Koda; one brother, James Hughes, of Shenandoah Heights; one sister, Jean Dower, of Ashland; nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 29, in Divine Mercy Church, 232 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah. Monsignor Ronald C. Bocian, pastor, will officiate. Interment will follow in Annunciation BVM Cemetery, Shenandoah Heights. A visitation will be held from 9 to 10 a.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy can be made to Divine Mercy Parish, 108 W. Cherry St., Shenandoah, PA 17976. Walukiewicz-Oravitz Fell Funeral Home, 132 S.
