Gina DeVitis Obituary

July 24, 2011

Gina L. Nork DeVitis, 33, of 116 Cheyney Drive, Eagle Rock Resort, Hazleton, died there in a swimming accident early Sunday.

Born in Pottsville, March 7, 1978, she was a daughter of Thomas J. and Barbara J. Kayes Nork.

She had resided at Eagle Rock Resort for the past seven years.

Gina graduated from Central Columbia High School, Bloomsburg, in 1996, and went on to receive her bachelor's degree in 2000 from Juniata College, where she played soccer; and her master's degree from Bloomsburg University.

She was employed as an instructional designer by Meta Media, Germantown, Md. Some projects she worked on with Meta Media included the NRA, NASA, OSHA and NIH. She was very proud of her work.

Gina was a loving wife, daughter, sister and friend. She celebrated life every chance she had, was funny, intelligent and loved by all. She enjoyed the outdoors, and was involved in many of the activities at Eagle Rock Resort. She also loved animals, especially her dog, Brutus. She was a loyal friend to all she knew, and her best friend was her husband.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her husband, Joshua S. DeVitis, with whom she would have celebrated seven years of marriage on Oct. 30; a sister, Laura, wife of Chadd Roadarmel, Danville; three uncles, Frank "Franook" Kayes, companion of Joan Link, Shenandoah, Joseph Kayes and his wife, Anne, Shenandoah, and Joseph Nork and his wife, Lynne, Bethlehem; four cousins, Rebecca and Joseph Kayes, Shenandoah, and Amy and Steven Nork, Bethlehem; her mother-in-law and father-in-law, Charlann and Richard Monica, Tom's River, N.J.; and a sister-in-law, Karissa Monica, Tom's River.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at noon Saturday at St. Columba Catholic Church, 342 Iron St., Bloomsburg, with Monsignor Robert E. Lawrence officiating. Friends are invited to call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Dean W. Kriner Inc. Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 325 Market St., Bloomsburg. Dear Barbara and Tommy,
Both Joe and I are so very saddened to hear about the loss of your wonderful daughter. I met her last year when she was enjoying lunch with her sister and you Tommy in Hazleton.
Our hearts are truly aching for you and your entire family. Our words of sympathy seem so meaningless because the loss of a child is never what anyone expects to experience.
We want you to know you will all remain in our prayers. There is no explanation for this tragedy, but God will give you HIS strength and HE will hold all of you in HIS LOVING ARMS.
With Our DEEPEST Sympathy,
Joe and Angie Babatsky
