Harry F. Evans, 80, of Tower City, passed away Sunday, Jan. 16, 2022, at his home with his wife and children by his side.
Born in Sheridan, Dec. 26, 1941, he was a son of the late Walter and Gertie Dunleavy Evans. Harry was a 1959 graduate of the former Porter Tower High School.
He was retired from TYCO, Lickdale.
Harry was a member of the St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Orwin, and the Orwin Fire Company.
He was a former baseball coach with the Orwin Cardinals and football coach with the Porter Tower Panthers and the Williams Valley Little Vikes.
His family was the center of his world and he was extremely proud of them. He enjoyed woodworking, making his famous wine that received numerous ribbons at local fairs, listening to Elvis Presley, gardening, hunting, fishing and collecting coins.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Yerger and Alma Updegrave; and a brother, William Evans.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Julia Miller Evans; three children, Karla S. Lettich (Kevin King), Williamstown, Harry G. Evans, Alaska, and Bryan S. Evans (Leah), Tower City; 10 grandchildren, Lauren, Evan, Chelsea, Ariel, Allison, Mason, Brady, Noah, Emma and Archer; four great-grandchildren, Khloe, Jasper, Maizlyn and Kalliopee; a sister, Nancy K. Raho (Albert), Tower City; one brother-in-law, Tom Miller, Bloomsburg, and two sisters-in-law, Deb Murray and Dolores Miller, both of Tower City; nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Jan. 21, from the Chapel of the Dimon Funeral Home Inc., Tower City, with the Rev. Maureen Duffy-Guy officiating. Burial will be in the St. Peter's Cemetery, Orwin. Viewing will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday and from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday at the chapel. I wanted to say I was so sorry to see that Mr. Evans had died. I remember when I was the Sch. County Fair sec and data entry person he would enter his wine. I enjoyed talking with him about it. Such a nice person. He will def. be missed. Kathy Evanchalk
