James Henry Masser, 87, of Klingerstown, passed away Tuesday, April 6, at Londonderry Village, Palmyra.
James was born Feb. 17, 1934, in Pitman, a son of the late Leah (Rothermel) and John J. Masser.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Darlene (Herring) Masser, who passed away March 5, 2021.
He was also preceded in death by two sons, Mitchell and Brent Masser; one brother and sister-in-law, Glenn C. and Carole Masser; stepfather, Clement Masser.
He graduated in 1952 from Mahanoy Joint High School and served in the Army, stationed in Germany, with a rank of E-4 from 1956-58.
He worked as a farmer in the local area as well as in Florida, where he grew peppers in Pahokee, Fla. He owned and operated hydroponic greenhouses in the local area and in the past grew and transported tomatoes to Chef Boyardee in Milton. He also worked as a truck driver and a heavy equipment operator.
He was a member of Christ Reformed and Evangelical Church, Leck Kill.
He was also a member of the F&AM for 48 years, a member of the Tall Cedars of Lebanon, and a lifetime member of Gratz VFW. He enjoyed playing euchre and for most of his life his work was his hobby. Later in life, he enjoyed putting jigsaw puzzles together.
James is survived by two daughters, Penny K., wife of Scott Rissinger, of Annville, and Angela A., wife of Jim Byrne, of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Philip J., husband of Bonnie Masser, of Elysburg; grandchildren, great-grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; three stepchildren, Tami Wagner and her husband, Stephen, Tonia Wolfgang and William Billus, and Troy Klinger and his wife, Susan; nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held from 4 to 5 p.m. Thursday, April 8, at Stephen R. Rothermel Funeral Home, 1133 Ridge Road, Klingerstown, with the funeral service following at 5 p.m. Interment will be held at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery at a later date.
