Joseph F. Gober, 80, of Mahanoy City, passed away Friday morning at his home.
Born at the former Locust Mountain Hospital, he was a son of the late Joseph and Olga (Rutenis) Gober.
He was a 1961 graduate of Mahanoy Area High School and served with the Navy from 1962 to 1965.
Joseph was employed by Mahanoy Valley Door and Supply formerly in Mahanoy City and last worked for Office Max in Hazleton.
He was a member of St. Teresa of Calcutta Church, Mahanoy City; American Legion Post 74; and the Mahanoy Area Historical Society. He was an avid fan of the Philadelphia Phillies and Eagles.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Georgine L. Gober, in 2018, and a sister, Diane McCabe.
He is survived by two sisters, Caroline Griechen and her husband, Frank, and Sandra Brown, both of Mahanoy City; nieces, nephews, cousins and his canine companion, Casey.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Friday, June 9, to be celebrated by the Rev. Kevin P. Gallagher, from St. Teresa of Calcutta Church. Friends may call at the church beginning at 9 a.m. Friday. Interment with military honors will follow in Sky-View Memorial Park in Hometown. Contributions in his name to Hillside SPCA, 51 SPCA Road, Pottsville, PA 17901, would be appreciated by the family and will be accepted at the visitation. David D.
