Lois Smith Obituary

Lois Smith, 87, of Ashland, passed away Saturday, Jan. 15, 2022, at Reading Hospital & Medical Center, West Reading.

Born in Mowry, on April 21,1934, she was the daughter of the late Frederick and Sarah (Love) Batdorf.

Lois graduated from Ashland High School in 1952, Pottsville Hospital School of Nursing in 1955 (RN) and Bloomsburg University, where she received her B.S. degree.

Lois worked at the Pottsville Hospital, Ashland State General Hospital (maternity ward), North Schuylkill School District as a school nurse and private duty nursing.

Preceding her in death were her parents; five brothers, Frederick, Russell, Harold, Charles and James Batdorf.

Surviving are her husband of 66 years, (married Nov. 11, 1955), James C. Smith, of Ashland; two sons, James D. Smith, of Sinking Spring, and Brian L., husband of Beverly Smith, of Ashland; three grandchildren, Brian S. Smith (Sonia), of Frackville, Lori Smith, of Ashland, and Kaitlyn Smith, of Sinking Spring; great-grandchildren, Landen Smith, Alexis Smith, Dominick Garman, Rylee Curry and Grayson Curry; nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday from St. John's Episcopal Church, 13th and Market streets, Ashland, with the Rev. Dr. Kurt Kovalovich officiating. Interment in Christ Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs. Viewing from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Thursday from St. John's Episcopal Church, Ashland. Donations in memory of Lois can be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, North Parish, P.O. Box 487, Frackville, PA. 17931.
