Michael Kerwin Obituary

Michael L. Kerwin Jr., 71, of Lykens, passed away Thursday in Lykens.

Born May 8, 1943, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Michael L. Sr. and Margaret McGrath Kerwin.

He was a graduate of the former Lykens High School, Class of 1962, an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, member and commander of Lykens American Legion and a member of Gratz VFW and Our Lady Help of Christians Catholic Church, Lykens.

He was employed by Reiff & Nestor Co. for 39 years until retirement in 2005.

Michael enjoyed reading, the outdoors and watching football.

In addition to his parents, Michael was preceded in death by his wife, Joan Marie Strohecker Kerwin; and brother, James Kerwin.

Surviving are his children, all residing in Pennsylvania, Michael L. Kerwin III and his wife, Samantha, Lykens, Kelly Kerwin-Moreland and her husband, James, Meadville, Michelle Kerwin-Herr and her husband, Jack III, Lykens, and James J. Kerwin, Lykens; grandchildren, Kierra Kerwin, Trevor Herr, Dawson Herr, Mason Herr, Kerwin Moreland, Madelaine Moreland, Miles Moreland, Mary Kelly Moreland and Hanna Houtz; a brother, Brian Kerwin, Elizabethville; sisters, Mary Caruso Harrisburg, Eileen Nestor, Lykens, and Margaret Kerwin, Camp Hill; and his companion, Catherine Decker.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. Friday at Our Lady Help of Christians Church, 732 Main St., Lykens, with the Rev. C. Anthony Miller officiating. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. until the time of service. Interment will be in the Irish Catholic Cemetery, Lykens. John R. Shultz Funeral Home, Lykens, has charge of the arrangements.

Mike was a very good friend of mine. We played football together, had a few drinks together but he always had my back either on the field of when we went running around. He will be missed allot. My condolence to his family.
