Norbert Schmitt Obituary

Norbert O. Schmitt, 77, of Union Court, Pine Grove, passed away Saturday at ManorCare Health Services.

Born in Bangka-Indonesia, Germany, on Jan. 30, 1933, he was a son of the late Ludgar and Maria Wind Schmitt.

He was an SP4 in the Army, having served from 1957 to 1959. He received medals for Expert in Rifle and Carbine and also the Good Conduct Medal. He served with the 518th Ord Co., Fort Hood, Texas.

Norbert was a manager and a tool maker.

Surviving are his wife of 27 years, Josephine DeStefano Schmitt, Pine Grove; his children, Joseph Falcone and his wife, Virginia, and Linda Fletcher and her husband, Timothy, both of Easton, Jacqueline Falcone, Sewaren, N.J., Doreen Dino and her husband, Ross, Parker, Colo., and James Schmitt and Dolores Schmitt, both of Metuchen, N.J.; eight grandchildren; a sister, Helga Pebalka and her husband, Vetalus, Germany; nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from H.L. Snyder Funeral Home Inc., Pine Grove, with the Rev. Allen Helwig officiating. There will be a calling time from 10 a.m. until the time of service Friday at the funeral home. Interment will follow in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. In lieu of flowers, the family would prefer contributions be made to the Alzheimer's Disease Association Inc., 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110, in his memory.
