Walter Artz Obituary

Walter Milton Artz, 81, of Wyomissing, died Saturday at Reading Hospital and Medical Center, West Reading.

He was the husband of Nancy Walton Artz, whom he married June 18, 1955.

Born March 29, 1929, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Ira Stephen and Emma Jane Morgan Artz.

Walter was a 1946 graduate of Pottsville High School and a 1950 graduate of Penn State University, where he received a bachelor of science in electrical engineering.

He was employed as an electrical engineer with Western Electric, AT&T and Lucent Technologies for 33 years, retiring in 1987.

Walter was a member of Lincoln Park United Methodist Church. He served on the church's Board of Trustees, where he was a past president.

He was a veteran, having served in the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Also surviving are his two daughters, Donna L., wife of Chris H. Sweimler, Sinking Spring, and Deborah A., wife of Daniel S. Christopher, Sinking Spring; a brother, Ira H. Artz, Lewisville, N.C.; three grandchildren, Douglas J. and Bradley A. Sweimler and Caitlyn R. Christoper.

Walter was preceded in death by two brothers, Elmer and Clyde Artz; three sisters, Florence A. Melnichek, E. Lorraine Platt and Esther Artz.

A viewing will be held Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. from Edward J. Kuhn Funeral Home Inc., 739 Penn Ave., West Reading, with interment following in Schuylkill Memorial Park. A memorial service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. in Lincoln Park United Methodist Church, 1 Carlisle Ave., Reading, PA 19609.
