William M. "Bange" DeAngeles Sr., 93, of Pottsville, passed away Friday morning at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Schuylkill E. Norwegian Street, just one day shy of his 94th birthday.
Born Dec. 19, 1926, in Pottsville, he was a son of the late Peter J. and Mildred (Eagan) DeAngeles.
He was a graduate of Pottsville Area High School and proudly served his country in the Navy during World War II.
William was a devout Catholic. He was member of St. Patrick RCC and a member of the former Mary Queen of Peace RCC.
He worked at Alcoa as a machinist for over 30 years, retiring in 1984.
He also helped to run the family grocery store for over 50 years.
William was a member of Buck Fever Rod & Gun Club since 1965 and a charter member of Catholic War Vets Post 1051, Pottsville.
He was an avid deer hunter and outdoorsman at Buck Fever Cabin, Potter County, and also an avid pinochle player on various local teams. William was a semi-professional baseball player with the fishbach team and other teams throughout the '40s and '50s.
He loved his family and most enjoyed attending his grandsons' sporting events.
William was preceded in death by his sister, Louise Lucas, and brother, Peter DeAngeles.
He is survived by his wife, Ann T. "Nancy" (Reddington), to whom he was married 65 years; sons, Peter T., companion of Alicia Watson, of Pottsville, William M. Jr., husband of Kathleen, of Pottsville; daughter, Patricia A. Holanchock, wife of Howard, of Lake Wynonah; grandchildren, Stephen and Nicholas; great-grandson, Ace; nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Dec. 21, at St. Patrick RCC, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville. A viewing will be held at 9:30 a.m. Monday at Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc., 1818 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, until the procession will leave for church. Interment with military honors will follow in Our Lady of Calvary Cemetery. The family requests contributions in William's memory be sent to St. Patrick Memorial Fund, 319 Mahantongo St., Pottsville, PA 17901. Lord-Bixler Funeral Home Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
