William Phillips Obituary

William F. Phillips, 93, of Berwick, passed away Monday at home.

Born Jan. 9, 1923, in Merchantville, N.J., he was a son of the late Roy Sr. and Mertie Golder Phillips.

William attended Drexel College. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served until 1945 and attained rank of sergeant.

He was an accomplished writer and enjoyed traveling. Bill and his wife danced their way through Europe. They also owned and operated the Lyric Restaurant and Bar in Shenandoah.

Bill was preceded in death by two brothers and five sisters.

He is survived by his wife, the former Leona "Lee" E. Gatowski, whom he married on Nov. 19, 1949; two sons, William F. Phillips Jr. and his wife, Marlene, Margate, N.J., and John P. Phillips and his wife, Kathy, Ringtown; three grandsons, Drew, Nathan and Elliot.

Services will be held at the convenience of the family. Friends may send condolences to jameslhinckleyjrfuneralhome.com. James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 Market St., Berwick, is handling arrangements.
