Andrew Jackson McGee III, affectionately known as Jackie to his friends and loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, at McLeod Hospice House in Florence, South Carolina. Born on July 27, 1946, in Florence County, SC, Jackie was a man whose presence was felt deeply by all who knew him. He leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and dedication to his community.
Jackie is survived by his beloved wife, Melody Powell McGee, and his children, Cindy Hickson (Carl), Kyle Hunt (Jonathan), and Cleate Rollins. He was a proud grandfather to Brittany Smith (Richard), Heather Holloway (Charlie), Riley Hunt, Chandler Rollins, and Baker Rollins, and a doting great-grandfather to Kaylee Holloway, Brianna Smith, Carly Holloway, and Brayden Smith. His sister, Alice Smith, will also hold dear the memories they shared. Jackie's faithful companions, his dogs Bear and Coco, will miss his gentle touch and warm presence. He was predeceased by his parents, Andrew Jackson McGee Jr. and Marie Hebert McGee Butler, and his brother-in-law, Quincy Smith.
For over 59 years, Jackie was a cornerstone of the community as a Master Barber, owning and operating Jackie's Barber Shop. His work ethic was unparalleled, as he also dedicated 35 years to the Florence County Law Enforcement, retiring as the Food Service Director at the Florence County Detention Center. Jackie was known for his ability to balance his two careers with grace and dedication, a testament to his hardworking nature.
Jackie was a member of Sand Hill Freewill Baptist Church, where he found great solace and fellowship. His faith was a guiding light in his life and an inspiration to those around him.
Jackie's passions were many and varied. He was a huge Clemson Tiger fan, attending games whenever possible, and his love for golf, shag dancing, and fishing provided him with countless hours of joy. Known for his culinary skills, Jackie was a great cook who loved to share his creations with family and friends. His heart held a special place for children, and he was always moved to help those in need, never wanting to see a child hurting or doing without.
His family remembers Jackie as a man who was always well put together, dressed to a tee, and who carried himself with a sense of pride and dignity. His kind-hearted and loving nature made him a pillar in the lives of many, and his selfless acts of kindness were a beacon of hope to those he encountered. As we say goodbye to this remarkable man, we celebrate the enduring impact he has made on the lives of so many. Jackie's memory will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to have known him.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Sand Hill Freewill Baptist Church, 1090 W Old Number 4 Highway, Coward, S.C. 29530, on Saturday, September 20, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. Officiating will be Rev. Sherwood Lee. Inurnment will follow at Mossy Grove Cemetery, 1200 Mossy Grove Road, Coward, S.C. 29530.
