Ethel Reynolds Obituary

Ethel Jane

Reynolds

Ethel Jane Fields Reynolds, widow of the late Richard Ervin Reynolds, Sr., finished her time in history and began her time in eternity on Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at the Presbyterian Home in Florence. Born December 7, 1933, on the family farm near Lamar, she was the daughter of Elena Watford and George DeWitt Fields. She was educated in the Lamar public schools and went on to become a proud graduate of Columbia College.

Mrs. Reynolds lived most of her life in Lamar where she and her husband raised their three children and were integral contributing members of the community. She was a member of Lamar United Methodist Church where she served in many capacities and a member of the Fellowship Sunday School Class and the Bessie Jeffords and Jean Hobson Circles. She was a long-time member of the Friends of Lamar Library Board and was instrumental in the development of Lamar Library Park. She "commanded" a cadre of volunteers who maintained the Park up to her high standards. Her time in the Park and the friendships nurtured there gave her great joy. She was also passionate about keeping the Town of Lamar looking its best and litter-free. In 2017, the Lamar Civitan Club honored her with its Tournament of Champions recognition for her service to the community.

Mrs. Reynolds taught science in the Lamar public schools at both the high school and elementary levels. She took great delight in imparting the love of nature and a sense of responsibility for the environment to generations of students. She has been described as having been "environmentally conscious long before that awareness was widespread."

She also loved gardening and was happiest in her yard. Up until the last months of her life she could be found in her garden working and appreciating the gifts of God's glorious creation.

She is survived by her three children and their spouses - Rich Reynolds (Kathy) of Darlington, Darryl R. Laffitte (Dr. Lucius) of Beaufort, and Joel Reynolds (Amy) of Simpsonville; grandchildren Baker R. Tange (Chad), Emma R. Reabold (Geoffrey), Lucius Laffitte, III, and JaneAnn L. Walker (Clarke), Palmer Reynolds, Amelia Reynolds, Caroline Reynolds, as well as great-grandchildren Reynolds Tange, Jackson and Cooper Reabold; her brother Dr. George Fields and sister Faye F. Griffin and many nieces and nephews that she loved beyond measure.

Mrs. Reynolds will be interred at Lamar Memorial Cemetery with a private family graveside service. Those wishing to honor her memory may do so with memorials to the Lamar Library Park Fund at the Eastern Carolina Community Foundation, PO Box 1615, Florence, SC 29503 or the Lamar United Methodist Church, PO Box 555, Lamar, SC 29069.

Belk Funeral Home is honored to serve the Reynolds family.

I love looking back on my childhood memories of "visiting" in Lamar with Grandma MaeBell. We would go around to everyone´s house "sit a spell" and catch up on the family news . Ethel Jane was always so gracious. Wishing you all comfort in sharing your memories at this sad time.
