Leach

Ruth Bennett Leach, 84, of Horsham, PA, passed peacefully away on September 6, 2021, after navigating Alzheimer's Disease and a brief illness. Ruth was born on April 4, 1937, to Frederick and Sadie Bennett of Hartsville, SC. After graduating from Hartsville High School, she attended Salem College, in Winston Salem, NC, graduating with degrees in English, History and Elementary Education. After graduation, she traveled north to the Philadelphia area, where she shared her gift of teaching with countless students, in the Upper Dublin School District and Montgomery County Intermediate Unit. Ruth was passionate about her students and consistently offered creativity, encouragement, and humor in her teaching. She desired to help her students learn the subject matter, but even more importantly their value and potential as a person.

In 1960, she married Marvin Kermit Leach and together raised 3 children. Karen Matteson Wright of Greenville, SC (David) , Susan Bennett Jenkins of Harveys Lake, PA (Edward) and James Frederick Leach of Key Biscayne, FL (Valerie). Ruth loved spending time with her family, always offering unconditional love, wisdom, and a helping hand. She was predeceased by her husband of 42 years, Marvin, and her parents. She is survived by her three children and their spouses, 10 grandchildren and their spouses, and 3 great-grandchildren; as well as her sister, Sara Goodson (Hartwell) of Greensboro, NC. and her 3 nieces and their families.

A service to honor and celebrate Ruth's life was held on October 8, 2021, at Jarrettown United Methodist Church. Family visitation began at 10 am, followed by a service at 11 am. The family invited all friends and family to join them in the Fellowship Hall immediately following the service for a lunch reception.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, www.alz.org.

I am just seeing this. I remember Mrs. Leach as Miss Bennett. She was my 3rd grade teacher at Highland Avenue Elementary School in Lansdowne, Pa. She was a wonderful teacher. Our class pulled off a surprise birthday party for her. I think it was her 23rd birthday. Also we all left the 3rd grade with a slight southern drawl.

I just found out about Mrs Leach from brother Jeff Daniels. Ruth and her family were key in my childhood memories as they lived next-door to us on Cavan Drive in Dresher. Not only were they friends and neighbors, but my sister, Nancy Daniels Liebert and I babysat Karen, Susan, and Jim. I want to send the Leech family my sincere condolences for the passing of Ruth Leach.

Wow, I just found out about this. May I say how sorry I was to hear of Ruth's passing, but hers was a life well lived. I worked with Ruth for many years at MCIU. She was a "southern belle", as was my own mother, and I was immediately drawn to her. She loved her job there and the students knew she was a "safe space". Of course her family was her greatest love and she spoke of you all so often. She was also hilarious! Her mantra was "seize the day!" I was always in awe that even at her later age, after your Dad passed, she would still jump in her van and drive many miles alone to see her children and grandchildren on the holidays. Finally, what a gracious gift to use her lovely portrait with her obit. We all would like to be remembered the way we remember ourselves! RIP, Ruth; I know you're singing with the angels.
