DARLINGTON -- Sarah DeWitt Jaillette passed away on Monday, July 26, 2021 after an illness. Sarah was born on October 13, 1948 to the late Mr. and Mrs. William Ernest DeWitt in Darlington. She was married to the love of her life, Harold "Hoss" Prentiss Jaillette, Jr., for 53 years. Her love for God, family and friends was immensely evident to all that knew her. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister and grandmother of five, who lovingly called her "Memaka". She will be remembered for her love of cooking Sunday dinners for her family, weekly card games with her sweet friends, Sue, Susan and Gail, gardening and her lively and generous spirit. God endowed her with an incredible gift of artistic talent and she loved painting for her children. She often commented that her artwork, which graces many of her families' homes, would be her legacy for future generations. Sarah was a lifelong member of Darlington Presbyterian Church.
She is preceded in death by her sister, Phoebe DeWitt Smothers. She is survived by her husband, Harold Prentiss Jaillette, Jr.; her two children, Harold Prentiss Jaillette, III (Sheri) and Amy Jaillette Johnston (Schipp); five grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth Johnston, Emma Maxwell Johnston, Bella Diana Jaillette, Savannah Schipman Johnston, and Harold Prentiss Jaillette, IV; her sisters, Frances DeWitt Haynes, Barbara DeWitt Stokes, Marian DeWitt Tidwell and Helen DeWitt Anderson, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. on Wednesday, July 28th at Darlington Presbyterian Church, directed by Belk Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church.
