Ross Young Obituary

On November 29, 2014, Ross Edward Young peacefully passed away after a brief illness. He was surrounded by immediate family and loved ones at Kent General Hospital in Dover. Mr. Young was 88 years old.

Born in Indiana on September 23, 1926, he was the youngest of five children born to the late James M. and Myrtle Swain Young. Their family moved to Florida in 1937 when Ross was 11, where they founded Young's Studio of Photography. Ross served in the Merchant Marines from 1940 to 1943. From 1950 to 1952 he served in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Dix, NJ, where he met his future wife, Lois A. Stetler. The couple was married on January 1, 1953 in Philadelphia, PA. Only eight months later, Ross and Lois opened Young's Studio of Photography on Loockerman Street in Dover, Delaware. Years later, joined by their son, Eric, the family photographic studio has continued to this day. After over 61 years in business in Downtown Dover, the family is proud that Young's Studio continues in his Mr. Young's honor.

Surviving in addition to Lois are their three children; Linda D. and husband Robert Robinson, Clayton, DE, Joyce A. and husband Michael Cain, Pennsboro, WV, and Ross Eric Young, Dover, as well as Ross' sister, Margaret Young Ward and many nieces and nephews in Florida and Georgia. He is also survived by six grandchildren; Robert Jr., Jonathan and Gregory Robinson, Laura Robinson Grier, Jennifer Cain Dodd and Stephanie Cain Arend. His seven great grandchildren are Grant and Elyssia Robinson, Hunter and Garrett Grier, Olivia and Grayson Dodd and Ember Arend.

Preceded in death, in addition to Ross' parents his siblings; Dorothy Young Grubbs, Warren B. Young and Homer D. Young.

Ross was a former member of Dover Jaycees, and one of the founding and lifetime members of Delaware Professional Photographers Association.

Methodist by faith, Ross will be interned privately at the Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Bear, Delaware.

Ross Young will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him as a kind and loving gentleman, father and friend.
