Alcuin "Al" Loehr, 85

Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday May 2nd at 11:00 AM at St. Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud for Alcuin "Al" Loehr, age 85, of St. Cloud, who died on Friday at the St. Cloud Hospital. Rev. Thomas Knoblach will officiate. Burial will be in Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls. Friends may call on Wednesday between 2:00-8:00 PM at St. Cloud City Hall where he will lie in State. The visitation will continue on Thursday after 9:30 AM at St Anthony's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. East Side VFW Post 4847 will pray at 7:00 PM on Wednesday at St. Cloud City Hall.

Al was born October 20th, 1927 in St. Cloud to Arnold and Regina (VonBokern) Loehr. He married Shirley Mae Raden on June 10th, 1950 at St. Augustine's Catholic Church in St. Cloud. Al attended Cathedral High School and then enlisted in the US Navy in 1945. Al served in the Pacific Theatre aboard the USS Calvert and was discharged on November 5th, 1947. He worked for the Great Northern Railroad, was a field man for the DFL Party, Commissioner of Veterans Affairs under Governor Karl Rolvaag and Governor Harold LeVander. Al served as the Stearns County Civil Defense Director, Mayor of St. Cloud from 1970-1980, Administrative Aid for the MN Senate from 1980-1990, and currently serving as Staff Assistant to Congressman Collin Peterson representing the 7th Congressional District. He was a member of St. John Cantius Catholic Church, Life Member of East Side VFW Post 4847 where he was the Past Post Commander, Past VFW 6th District Commander, and Past VFW State Commander, member of Eagles Aerie #622, Waite Park American Legion Post 428, DAV Chapter # 9, Crosier Apostolates, NARVRE, and Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of VFW National Legislative Committee.

Al's love of sports brought him to the following: he was the first president of Cathedral Athletic Assn., St. Cloud Sports Inc., Minnesota Amateur Baseball Hall of Fame where he was past president and supported youth sports here in Central Minnesota.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley, children, Wayne Loehr, Minneapolis, Cindy Jameson, Pierz, Debra Eisenstadt (Mike) Sartell, and Peter Loehr (Carole) St. Cloud, grandchildren, Leah Schammel, Tricia Eveland, Bert and Peter Jameson, Amy and Alicia Eisenstadt, Christie Schulte, and Eric Loehr and 7 great-grandchildren, brothers, Maurice Loehr (Kathy) Maple Grove, Arnold "Butch" Loehr (Nancy) Maple Grove, and Richard Loehr (Becky) St. Cloud.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters, Patricia McKibbon, Donna Adamski, Shirley Walstrom, brother, Ken Loehr, and daughter-in-law Joan Loehr.

The family would like to thank Mayor Dave Kleis for his friendship and support. They would also like to thank the staffs at the Country Manor Rapid Recovery Unit and the St. Cloud Hospital especially the Surgical Units, Inpatient Rehab Unit, and the Med-2/MPCU staff as well as the Palliative Care Team and Doctor Henri Lanctin, Dr. Derr, Dr. Schlosser, Dr. Barb Bolinger, and the Spiritual Care team including Fr. Tom Knoblach.
