It is with deep sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Catherine Anne Meer on Saturday, November 1, 2014 at the age of 59 years. Catherine will be dearly missed by her husband of 38 years Khurshid Ahmad Meer; daughter and son in law Sherri and Dwayne Billingsley and her two precious grandchildren Brayden and Kira. Catherine will also be remembered by her brothers Dave (Beth) Lawton and Ed Lawton; sister Fay (Brian) Bartel and nieces and nephews: Brandy, Kelsie, Linnea, Lindsay, Garett and Bryson. Catherine was predeceased by her mother and father Annetta and Robert Lawton. Catherine enjoyed all of the fun things life had in store for her. She loved travelling around the world, singing in the Central United Church Choir which she did for many years, being a Girl Guide Leader in the past, and of course going on outings and spending as much time as she could with family, friends and her grandchildren who were the apple's of her eye. She also had a very successful career for over 30 years with the City of Calgary / Enmax. A Celebration of Catherine's Life will be held in the Chapel of Mountain View Funeral Home on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Michael Ward officiating. Catherine Meer was like another mother to myself. Her daughter Sherri and I were raised together since we were 4 years old. My mom used to babysit Sherri for about 13 years. We had a lot of wonderful memories together. Catherine will always be remembered in our hearts forever by myself and family as well. My prayers go out to her family may the Lord bless you all and may Catherine rest a peace.

Cathy and I worked in UCAD together in the early to mid 1980's. I remember her kind heart, her constant willingness to help her fellow workers and I remember her love of conversation. I was very sorry to read that she had passed away. My sincere condolences to her family and friends.

I worked with Cathy for many years at the City. She will be sadly missed by everyone. I went on a trip with her once to Las Vegas with Ann and we had a wonderful time. Miss you and loved you very much

Sincere condolences to the Meer family. It was a blessing getting to know you Cathy, I will miss your smile your cheerfulness in the office. You make my day better every time we spoke of your grandchildren, you will forever be in my heart and I know you are in a better place RIP dear friend. I could go on about all that I will miss about you. but that would take days. To Cathy family take comfort in knowing that Cathy was all about her family and love them very much Kira and Brayden the lost time our conversation was all about you two and the update pictures she wanted to share, she is so proud of you. I worked with Cathy from the first day she started with the City. Cathy had a heart of gold and was always there if you needed a helping hand. The stories she could tell...what a great sense of humour!

Cathy was a wonderful woman; kind, warm-hearted, hilarious, thoughtful, creative, fun and absolutely fantastic at canasta. From farming roots, she learned to play cards before she learned to walk. I could never match her skill but together as a team we won most of the games we ever played. She was my best friend since the day we met in September of 1970. We passed through all the stages of life together: high school, university, engagement, wedding, babies, babies who became teens and, when the sad occasion came, burying the parents we loved. Most of it was grand. The last part was sad but we did it all together. No one will ever take her place in my heart. I will miss you Cathy! You were the sister I never had.
