Genevieve Akervik Obituary

Genevieve B. "Jenny" Akervik, 99

Sauk Rapids, Minnesota

February 10, 1916 ~ July 20, 2015

Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday at the Daniel Funeral Home in St. Cloud and after 9:30 a.m. on Friday at the Good Shepherd Community Chapel in Sauk Rapids.

Jenny was born on February 10, 1916 in St. Cloud to the late Michael and Mary (Richter) Rein.  Jenny grew up in the St. Cloud area and attended St. Mary's Cathedral then went to business college.  She married Marvin Akervik on August 2, 1948 in St. Cloud.  Jenny was employed as a dietary aide at the St. Cloud Hospital until early retirement to care for her mother.  She lived most of her life in St. Cloud and moved to Sauk Rapids in 1998.  She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Sauk Rapids.

Jenny was always others centered:  she was an encourager, great listener, always helpful , loving and a  giving person with a heart of gold. She enjoyed dancing, traveling to see her children, playing cards and socializing.  She chose to collect frogs "Everybody thinks they're ugly, so someone's got to love them!"   Jenny will be remembered as an incredible mother, fun loving grandmother and a great role model to all.  She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her children, Roger (Barb) of Brainerd, Kay Brutger of Bowling Green, Kentucky,  David (Linda) of Royalton, Janice Barrett of Nashville, Tennessee, Jeff (Mary) of St. Joseph; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; brother, Mike (Tina) Rein of Moorhead.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin in 1971; parents; grandson, Jimmy Crouch; brothers, Wilfred "Bitz" and Albert Rein.

A special thanks to the staff of Good Shepherd Lutheran Home, her friends at Oak West Apartments and St. Croix Hospice for their loving care and compassion.
