Fosston - James Metzger, age 74, of Fosston, MN and formerly of Melrose, MN and Freeport, MN, passed away on Thursday, January 18th at his home. A memorial Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 27th, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in New Munich, MN with Father Daniel Waltz presiding. Family will greet friends for two hours prior to the service at the church (9:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m.). Interment will be held in the parish cemetery at a later date. James George Metzger was born on November 4, 1943 in Melrose, Minnesota to parents Raymond and Eleanore (Kulzer) Metzger. He attended Melrose High School and the Army Reserves.

He was married to Diane Burg from 1966 until 1999. Together they had farmed in Freeport, Minnesota. As the years followed, James had occupations including carpentry work, driving semi truck and investing in properties and apartments. James truly never retired and days were full to the very end. His true passions were farming, carpentry, fishing/spearing, hunting, traveling, watching baseball and football and spending time with his children, grandchildren and pets.

Survivors include his children, Jacqueline Metzger, Peter Metzger, Michael Metzger, Timothy Metzger, Jennifer Metzger, Anna Metzger and Andrea Metzger. Along with 11 amazing grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters, Charlene Dols, Sister Mary Gabriel (Joyce) and Linda Metzger.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Eleanore Metzger; and brothers, Anthony and Alcuin Metzger.

James was loved and will be missed by so many.
