Laurie Petermeier Obituary
Laurie was born in Veblen, SD to James and Barbara Halverson on December 2, 1959. She attended Veblen area schools, graduating in 1978. Laurie was also a graduate of North Dakota State School of Science in Wahpeton, ND.
As a member of a custom harvesting family, Laurie enjoyed her childhood summers with her family working the land from Oklahoma to South Dakota. She excelled in Track and Field in High School and was a repeat entrant in the South Dakota State Finals.
At age 17 Laurie was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma and spent most of her senior year of High School battling this disease. Although the treatment took care of the immediate crisis it created many obstacles in the future. Laurie also endured and survived Thyroid Cancer, Skin Cancer, Breast Cancer and an Aortic Heart Valve replacement. Always one to have a positive and upbeat attitude, Laurie's motto was "I feel good".
Laurie raised her family in Cold Spring, MN and relocated with husband to Phoenix, AZ in 2007. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, bookclub, golfing, social outings and her must see TV lineup. There were no strangers in Laurie's life.
Survivors include her husband Dave, daughter Kayla (Drew Axsom, Otis, CO), stepchildren Krystal (Boulder. CO and Danny (Denver, CO), her mother Barbara along with brothers Mike, Clayton, Jim sisters Susan and Mary and loving extended YAYA's. She is preceded in death by her dad James, Grandparents Alice and Andy Anderson, John and Hilda Halverson and her beloved dog Dion.
Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers.

Words cannot express how sad I was to have heard that Laurie had passed. I have so many wonderful memories that I will cherish forever... We have a very special angel looking out for us now. There are great memories of her at our farm and theirs. Laurie's positive out look was inspirational with all that she had to deal with. She will be missed.

I was so sad to get the phone call that Laurie had passed away. I too hadn't seen her in a long time but it's funny how those memories of times gone by, come back so quickly when someone dies. Growing up, she was my sister Laurie's (Nork's) best friend and where you found Laurie Jo, you usually found Nork! She fought such an amazing battle with her health problems, and always with such dignity and courage. When I look at this picture of her, it makes me smile cuz that's the way I'll always remember her! God bless her special memory.

After High School, Laurie & I didn't see each other often, but when we did it was like we had seen each other the day before. My heart aches that she has gone, but I know when I meet up with her again it will be like yesterday. We said a prayer for Laurie every day for almost a year. With all of the obstacles she overcame in her life, we really thought she would overcome this one too. We were very sad to hear about Laurie's passing. She has moved on to a new place where she won't have all the suffering she endured here. She was a great lady and will be truly missed.
