Lucina Colinares Obituary

Lucina Espina Colinares

Lucina Espina Colinares was born to Silveria Estorninos and Fernando Espina in Basey, Samar, Philippines February 4, 1924. The oldest of six children, Lucina helped raise her siblings upon her father's death in 1942. While helping to send her siblings to school, Lucina acquired her teaching credentials and taught grade school in Basey. On August 22, 1959, Lucina married her childhood sweetheart, Cirilo Gacmatan Colinares. Cirilo and Lucina immigrated to The United States in 1960 where they settled in Seattle, Washington and Cirilo worked at Providence Hospital. The couple had two children, Priscilla born in 1961 and Anthony in 1962. Lucina attended technical school at night and worked several clerical jobs in the Seattle area until she became a civil servant and gained employment with the federal government. She worked for the Social Security Administration and retired from the U.S. department of Housing and Urban Development shortly after Cirilo's death in 1979. Lucina was the matriarch of the Espina and Colinares families. Her diligence and hard work allowed three of her siblings to live out the American dream as she petitioned them to come to the United States. Her love, guidance, support, and encouragement remain immeasurable and will be forever appreciated by her family. Lucina had a great Christian faith, was a lover of music, and enjoyed bus tour traveling with friends. Lucina adored taking care of children which she did for her grandchildren, nephew, and nieces over the years. After a lengthy battle with dementia, Lucina went to meet her Savior, Christ Jesus on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at the age of 90 years old.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Cirilo and sister, Brigida. She is survived by children: daughter Priscilla Laigo, son-in-law Rene, son Anthony Colinares, daughter-in-law Jessica, four grandchildren: Miguel and Adriana Laigo, Lana and Eva Rose Colinares. Siblings: brother Miguel Espina, sister-in-law Cynthia. Sisters: Dorotea Isturis, Porferia Duquilla, and Lilia Santiago. Nieces: Cherelyn Espina, Cora Erickson and nephew Fernando Espina.
