I am so very sorry to hear about your loss Rachel. Though I didn't know Matt much at all, I know that if you were married to him, he must be a really great guy. My last memory is when we were at Kamran and Jenny's home and I was talking with Matt on the back deck, we were talking about dogs. I remember him being very very smart and kind. If you need anything at all please contact me. My prayers are with you and his entire family.

We really enjoyed getting to know Matt at the club. He was always so positive and a joy to be around. He was great with the kids and the junior golf program. Two of our kids were active in the program and enjoyed Matt and the time he spent with them. Our prayers go out to all of Matt's family.

It is with a very heavy heart and many tears that I write this message. There are no words... Matt, you are so dearly missed and you are SIMPLY THE BEST. You are a "once in a lifetime" human being. Very few people get the opportunity to know someone like you and I'm so grateful for having had that chance. You inspired me in so many ways. Your contagious smile, generous heart and kind spirit will live on in our memories and you will never be forgotten. You had unquestionable character and integrity and the impact you had on all of us is immeasurable. You have been an example to everyone as to the type of character and attitude we should emulate. You had a rare gift of making everyone feel special. Whether you knew someone a day or a year, you made them feel like they had been your friend for a lifetime. I'd like to think that I'm a better person because of you and it was a great priviledge to have known you. Rachel, the Orth family, and friends, my heart goes out to you during this difficult time. You are in my thoughts and prayers. May you rest in peace, Matt.

Our family is deeply sorry for the loss of Matt. He was the golf instructor for our three sons, Alexander (10), Allen (10), and Jackson (8). He also gave me (Joy) a lesson. He met with my husband Clayton to discuss the boys' progress. He was a patient and kind person. Our boys were looking forward to starting junior golf next year, because of Matt. Our boys are very sad that Matt passed away and they are praying for your family. We are all praying for your family.

We are shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the sudden passing of Matt. Our hearts and prayers go out to our dear friend Larry Orth, his family, Matt's bride, and everyone who was close to Matt. Our fondest memories are when Matt, Travis, Dominic, and our son Tyler would all get together and fish for walleyes. They were only about 8 or 9 years old and so looked forward to their get togethers when Tyler would come to visit from Florida. Sadly we kinda lost touch when work caused us to move to KC in 92. Only now we find that Matt lived in Des Moines, only a hop skip and jump away. Hearing about Matt's personality and accomplishments is quite impressive. We wish we would have had the opportunity to know him as an adult. We will always remember Matt with love. Jim, Deb & Tyler Griffith

It is with very heavy hearts and lumps in our throats that we send this message today. Matt, you were simply, one-of-a-kind and are already so terribly missed. We Bachs ADORED you! Gracie was even to the point that she wouldn't take a lesson or have a play day, unless "it was with Matt"! Your guidance and inspiration that you provided our kids was unmatched, and the hole you leave is so much bigger than what happens on a golf course. It will certainly not be the same without you. We have talked many times these last couple of days about seeing you last Friday night at our Twilight, whizzing by us on a golf cart, with that infectious smile, hollering, "Hey, Bachs! Hook 'em Horns!". Thank you, Matt for just being you! May the peace that passes all understanding be with your beautiful wife, family, co-workers and friends at this very difficult time. Though it hurts like nothing else, we know that we are grateful for knowing you, blessed that you were part of our lives, and will forever be an Angel on our shoulders. You will always be in our hearts. Now..."Keep your head down, bend your knees, eye on the ball, follow-through..."

Dear Matt, Thanks for being the best golf teacher I have ever had. You always made me feel like I was great even if I didn't have a great shot. Remeber me telling you about when I was going to try out for the competition dance team? You told me to not worry about it, stay focused and I would do great, just like with golf. You were a good friend Matt. Remember when you, me, Taylor and AJ went out golfing for our lesson, and how we had so much fun. You stole our pretzels! :-) I am sorry that you are not here to be with us anymore. I am going to miss how you always said "Theeeeeere's Graaaaacie!" When my mom and dad told me what happened, I didn't want to believe them, and then at school, I talked to Parker Cheney and he couldn't beleive it either. We were both sad. You were a great friend and teacher to a lot of kids. I promise you, and the lessons you gave me will be part of me forever. I am sorry for your wife and the rest of your family, and hopefully someday my heart will feel better. We are all going to miss you. I am going to miss you. Thank you Matt!

We recently joined DMGCC and got to know Matt this Summer through the Junior Golf program. He was instrumental in helping our son Carter improve his golf skills and I'm certain Carter will remember all the tips Matt gave him for the rest of his life. Matt made it a point to let me know how Carter was doing when I saw him around the club and recently, he started to personalize e-mails he sent us with "Go Vols" knowing we are big TN fans. He cared about the kids in his program and always had a smile on his face. We're going to miss him and we have your family in our thoughts and prayers.

Our hearts go out to Rachel and the entire Orth family during this difficult time. The positive life lessons that Matt taught our 12 year old sons will be cherished their entire lives. Our sons talk about watching the Hawkeye game with Matt last Saturday and how he laughed and joked with them and Matt ended the day as a proud teacher and friend to all the Jr golfers and embraced them all with his warm smile. Also, Matt's face would just light up whenever he discussed his home in MN or how proud he is of his wife.. The Pietzschs dearly miss Matt and we send our prayers to all of you! The Pietzsch Family

Our thoughts and prayers go out to your family. Matt was such an encouranging and positive influence on our children. We appreciated all the time and patience Matt had for our son on the golf course and in the pro-shop talking golf and hockey and listening to 9yr old jokes. Whenever we'd ask Matt if our son was becoming a pest, he'd just smile and say "better he's here than in front of a TV". I also had the privilege of working with Matt on the JR Golf Committee and got to see his dedication to the kids and the program first hand. Matt will be greatly missed by our entire family.

Matt was a treasure to Des Moines Golf. He made an impact on our sons that will last their lifetimes. His sense of humor was one of the favorite things they shared. They all loved talking northern mn golf courses. On last Saturday Matt too our son Drew to his office and gave him one of his Personal Callaway hats.... Just because. He shared the "leftie" gene with our Sons as well. We could never share with you in words how much he meant to our sons. He was a class act. One of a kind. He has left his fingerprints on our boys lives and we are so very grateful. Prayers for all of you as you deal with this huge loss. Matt was loved by many. We will miss him. -The Shisler Family

Rachael and entire Orth family,
Matt has deeply touched my and many others hearts. He changed my life and taught me not only the basics of golf but what it means to never give up and always keep pushing yourself and motivating others. He truly is one of the greatest people I have ever had the privilege of getting to know.He taught me also that golf could be fun and made me determined to get even better. I deeply miss him and you are forever in my prayers. God bless you and everyone else who knew the life changing Matt Orth. We will forever miss you Matt.

My son and I last saw Matt on Saturday outside the Pro Shop at DMGCC. A golf cart had run into one of the large planters leaving a mess of pottery, dirt & flowers. Matt was on the job cleaning it up with a shovel and trash can. At the same time he was working to clean up the mess, he still managed to smile and joke with all the Junior Golfers who had assembled there for a tourney! It was a typical Matt moment.
We will miss Matt, and we will keep him and his family in our prayers.
