Carol Richards Obituary
She attended St. Timothy's School before matriculating at Bennett Junior College. Wendy met Jack Richards on Squam Lake in New Hampshire, which would remain their favorite place throughout their lives. She and Jack married in 1955, and spent their first year of marriage in Harlingen, Texas while Jack served in the Air Force. In 1956 they returned east to Andover, Mass., where they would serve in multiple capacities at Phillips Academy for the next four decades.
Early in her years at Andover, Wendy worked in the Admissions Office and was an active member of the Ladies Benevolent Society. She would go on to serve as a tennis coach, dorm parent, faculty advisor, and Dean of Rabbit Pond Cluster. In her roles as dorm parent and dean, Wendy provided wise and caring counsel to generations of Andover students. In addition to their work at Andover, the Richards were for decades deeply involved with the Mayhew program in New Hampshire, which serves at-risk boys from the state. Wendy and Jack raised five children at Andover, all of whom graduated from the school.
After retirement, they split time between Sunapee, N.H. and Naples, FL, where Wendy volunteered for both Hospice and Habitat for Humanity. They also traveled frequently, often with friends. In 2010, they moved to Riverwoods, in Exeter.
Predeceased by Jack and their daughter Pam, Wendy leaves behind Laura, of Watertown, Mass., Chris, of Watertown, Mass., Tim, of Pomfret, Conn., and C.C., of Cumberland, Maine; as well as her beloved brother Pete and his wife Nancy; thirteen grandchildren; and countless friends.
SERVICES: A Memorial Service to celebrate Wendy's life will be held at the Cochran Chapel at Phillips Academy on Saturday, January 27, at 11 a.m.
