Donald Lippoth Obituary

YORK, Maine - Donald M. Lippoth, 87, of 109 Fieldstone Estates, passed away on Monday, April 2, 2018 at the Gosnell Hospice House. He was born May 3, 1930 in New Rochelle, N.Y., a son of the late Walter W. and Eleanor (Hager) Lippoth.

He was predeceased by his wife of 33 years, Susan V. Lippoth in 2011 and a son John "Chip" Lippoth in 1982.

He leaves a son Donald M. Lippoth Jr. and his wife Cheryl of Freeport, Maine; three daughters, Kate and her husband Joe of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Barbara McWerter and her husband Scott of Morrisville, Vt., and Robyn Willow of Sarasota, Fla.; a brother Roger Lippoth of Pearl River, N.Y.; a sister Janet Kusche of Savannah, Ga.; four grandchildren, Dan Shevenell, Kayla Becker, Kerry Sullivan and Fallon Lippoth; three great-grandchildren; and his extended family Gina Connolly, David Nelson, MD, dear friend Jean Dolan and his dog, Daisy.

Don was a graduate of New Rochelle High School where he excelled in baseball, basketball and football. This would lead him to a full scholarship to Pennsylvania Military College. He was forever grateful for this opportunity. Upon graduation he was commissioned as an officer in the US Army during the Korean War. He completed his education with a Masters in Electrical Engineering from the University of St. Louis.

Don's professional career was in sales to power companies throughout New England. He and business partner Richard Corradino went on to establish their own electrical manufacturers' representation company known as C&L Sales in 1982. The company continues today as First Line Associates, which was a source of pride for Don.

Don considers his move to York in 1978, marrying the love of his life Susan Van Aiken as the wisest decision he ever made. They were inseparable in their adventures; their love for each other was often mentioned as what others strived for!

Don's motto to live by was, "I have things to do, people to see and places to go"! This would take on many forms whether it be sailing, motorcycling and restoring classic cars to name just a few of his hobbies. The friendships that he developed along the way were the invaluable results of these passions. He continued this zest for life to the very end and was looking forward to one more cruise on WHYKNOT with a "noon balloon" in hand.

He was active in the community and his church. He was known as "Santa" to many York families. He was a founding member of the Moose Island Yacht Club, a former member of the Portland Yacht Club and a York Rotarian. He belonged to several motorcycle and car clubs along the way. He was a fierce advocate for Pit Bull Terriers, having owned many over 70 years.

Don would want his legacy to be that he loved his wife, family, friends, his country and Christ.

His family is blessed for all of the love and memories that comfort us in our loss. We are also thankful to all of his friends and neighbors that comforted and sustained him after the loss of his Susan.

Don & I were college classmates at Pennsylvania Military College in the early 1950's, were roommates for a few months in the Spring of 1952 and he would sometimes drive me to college, in his 1941 Ford baby blue coupe, since we both lived in Westchester County, NY then. Was captain of our college football team in his senior year of 1952-3. Delighted that he lived a long and full life surrounded by family and friends galore! Bon voyage old friend and save me a place in Heaven when it's time to join you Don! Al

A wonderful individual, opinionated but respectful of all, a perfectionist, one who suffered fools not at all, one always knew where one stood with Don, so refreshing! A good friend whom it was our pleasure to know and embrace, in good times and troublesome ones - requiescat in pacem, Donald, my friend and keep on sailing with your beloved Susan!

I knew Don through the BMW motorcycle club. He was a wonderful person, well-liked, and well-respected. He provided me with my first interaction with a pit bull (Bozo). I remember him and Sue with great fondness and their love for each other was evident. I shall keep his family in my prayers.
