Edward McGarry Obituary

KITTERY, Maine — Edward I. "Teddy" McGarry, 62, of 11 Badgers Island West, died Friday, April 10, 2009, at Portsmouth Regional Hospital with his loving wife and sister, Anne, by his side.

He was the devoted husband of Donna (Elias) McGarry.

Teddy was born in Lowell, Mass., April 30, 1946, the son of Anastasia McGarry Harrison and the late Edward McGarry. He was a graduate of Lowell High School with the class of 1963 and a member of the Lowell Elks.

He owned and operated M&M Auto Parts and Paint Supply for 28 years on First Street in Lowell and MAWD Inc. to date. For the past 20 years, Teddy and his wife, Donna, owned and operated Morrison's Lobster Pound and Restaurant on Badgers Island in Kittery.

Teddy was an avid boatman, fisherman and lobsterman throughout his life. His love for the ocean was only equaled by his love for the automotive and equipment industries. Anything with an engine was Teddy's business. His endeavors led him to trade in places throughout the world and to rub elbows with racing greats such as Jeff Gordon. Teddy was a generous sole and did not know the words "can't" and "no" and helped many people along his way.

Teddy is survived by his devoted wife, Donna M. (Elias) McGarry, his mother, Anastasia McGarry Harrison of Rye, N.H., and Boca Raton, Fla., as well as two sisters, Anne McGarry Gould of Santa Barbara, Calif., and Martha McGarry of West Palm Beach, Fla. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews, brothers- and sisters-in-law and many friends, business associates and devoted dogs, Annabelle and Abigail.

He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Fogarty.

At Teddy's request, a memorial service will be held at his home on 11 Badgers Island West, Kittery at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 14. All family and friends are invited to comfort his wife as she bids farewell along the shores of the Piscataway River outside of their home, a place which Teddy loved so dearly.

Assistance with the arrangements was by Remick & Gendron Funeral Home-Crematory, Hampton, N.H. Please visit www.RemickGendron.com for directions and online guestbook.

Dear Donna. My heart goes out to you over our loss of Teddy. We pray God will ease your pain. Ted was always bigger than life for me, and in fact, I always considered him like my big brother. Over the years, during my Air Force career, I would occasionally stop by the business when I was home on leave to see if Teddy was in, but,
unfortunately, I was never able to hook up with him. Please pass my best wishes to Stasia, Anne, and Martha.

Dear Donna

We are very sorry to read about Teddy’s passing. We haven’t seen you folks for a while but I very seldom look out of our home towards Raven Road without thinking about Teddy and all the years that you lived there. The write-up and the comments about Teddy in the newspaper article are all so true. Teddy’s passion for the mechanical and his love for boating and the ocean were obvious to anyone that met him. Teddy was definitely a unique individual to meet and for those who got that pleasure and opportunity he was certainly not one that is easily forgotten. The article comments that the words “can’t” or “no” as not being in his vocabulary were trademarks to his personality and presence.

Teddy knew a lot a people and his demeanor and charm as well as his passion for life left a long and lasting impression in all that met him. He helped a lot of people, some openly and others behind the scenes but always apparent that Teddy had been somehow involved.

We were unable to attend his memorial service but at some time we will stop by at the Piscataway River to say farewell to a good neighbor.

Our thoughts and prayers are with you during this time
